Hi everyone just though i would say hiiii to all u wonderful people .WOW im juust shocked at all these stories I'am seeing here and the results everyone in here is a role model espcially for me .. Ive done the gi and abdominal ultrasound and everything is good.. All im waiting for now is my insurance to approve it.. Worst part ever knowing that u cant really do anything but Waitt ;).. I get scared sometimes because i dunno it is surgury and i hope nothin goes wrong im only 24 i have soo many things planned in my life but hey its a risk that im goin to take.. Okay enough talking lol I need some help from people who have done it and people who are in the same situation waiting for the approval how they feel..?? just anything from anyone. Thank You.

hey! im in a similar situation to you, im 22 years old, and am in canada, so im a self-pay patient. so although i dont have to deal with insurance, its been quite a journey trying to get the ball rolling.. ive dealt with a family doctor who just doesnt listen, and ive been sent twice to consultations with doctors who dont deal with the lap band.. anyways to make a long story short, after 10 months of trying for this im currently waiting on my appointment with the anethstesiologist, and then if all goes well i'll get a date! i think its tough for younger people to go through the process of being banded.. because i think we are often discredited based on our age. I know for me, ive been dieting since i was 8 years old.. and i fear for my future. even at 22 i can honestly say this is not a vanity thing, i want one day to be able to have children, and my fertility is compromised with PCOS, and im borderline diabetic. i need to get this under control and i need to do it now. just know that you are not alone, and the waiting is so hard, but it will happen for us if we dont give up.

good luck on your journey!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
