how long post-op to play golf again?

Recommended Posts

i am an inveterate golfer 59 years old, who undertook lap band surgery one week ago today. some of my motivation for surgery was to improve my flagging golf game and my endurance.

i have done fantastically well in losing weight since i began my journey to lapband. at the end of 5/2008 i weighed my highest at 394 (6'4). my golf game, once quite respectable, had slowly vanished as my weight grew. in addition, my endurance flagged in the tampa summer heat.... so i began a diet 6/1/08 and sought lap band approval. by the day of the surgery on 10/17/08, i had lost a total of 47 pounds and weighed 347.

today, one week later to the day, the scale tips at 338! a total of 56 pounds... fantastic! my goal is 230, and i am confident i will get there. however, i really need to know how long others took to return to golfing activities. i will be seeing my surgeon next week and, of course, will seek his opinion.

but, for now, i would like some golfing banders to tell me how long after surgery did they return to golf? of course, most of you golfers may already be on the first tee today, lol, so let me know upon finishing.... hit em straight!

My doctor said you can return to ALL physical activity as soon as you feel up to it. So, if you feel up to it, go golfing. If you find that you don't feel good out on the course you can always quit and go home for the day.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
