Comfort Foods... mmmm!

Recommended Posts

I made a very yummy dinner tonight!

I took 7 reduced guilt pita chips (from Trader Joe's) 100 calories

reduced fat cheese - 1 serving 100 calories

1.5 oz of canned albacore tuna mixed w/ fat free mayo 76 calories

I topped the pita chips w/ tuna and then topped that with the cheese. It tasted EXACTLY like a tuna melt, one of my favorite all time comfort foods.

It's a little high in calories, but not as high as an actual tuna melt! I burned 900 (!!!) calories today, so I will say I was VERY hungry when I got home!

What other comfort food alternatives have you come up with?

mmmmm comfort foods...i would love to get some alternatives. during PMS comfort foods are all i crave. for me it's homemade chicken and noodles (homemade egg noodles) and mashed potatoes. I can satisfy my craving with the broth and mashed potatoes and a few pieces of chicken, but it's more carbs that i like to have.

another one that gets me, nachos. i don't know why, but i have no trouble with nachos. during TOM when i'm tighter, nachos seem like the only thing that i dont have problems with. weird!

sounds yummy.

i always crave sheperd's pie when it's chilly outside. i use some help from the store during the week due to time issues...

pre-made mash (real) in refrigerated section

bird's eye steam bag veggies (i use the garlic peas & mushrooms)

1lb lean ground beef

reduced fat cheese

can ff cream of mushroom

can golden mushroom

preheat oven to 400

so i start browning my meat. meanwhile i pop in the veggies in the micro. when they are done (veggies) i pop the mash in the micro. So when the mean is browned i add the veggies and about (i don't measure) 2 tablespoons of each Soup. Stir. Dump the meat in a pam'd dish. top with cooked mash. add some cheese. cook until brown and melty.

I know many are "afraid" of carbs, but i find that for me--if i still eat what i crave, but i make sure i measure it...then i stay on track. it's work for me so far.

I brown up the ground turkey in a little olive oil.

I mix in a can of Bold Manwich and add ketchup and sugar to taste.

You could also use BBQ Sauce if you prefer.

Easier to get down than beef for me.

I eat it straight up-no bread. Tastes great and keeps for days.:grouphug:

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
