I got the call....Approved!!!

Recommended Posts

The office manager called my cell phone yesterday and told me I was approved. I think I was so happy I told her I loved her or something.

She said she will follow up with a call on Monday for EKG and chest x-ray and give me a surgery date.

I realized how much I like my insurance. No pre-surgical requirements and a answer in two days....WOW!

I am finally going to WIN this life long battle with my weight.

Ok - Now the funny thing....why am I afraid?

I don't think I am afraid of surgery. I think I might be afraid of failing or acting differently after I lose weight. I like who I am but I don't like being overweight. But being overweight has made me who I am...kinda soft and quiet and maybe a little backward. They are the traits my wife fell in love with.

I was afraid of the unknown. And failing. And stuff like that. ;)

I think it's pretty normal to be afraid. This is a big step.

Did you have the six month supervised diets with doctors to get them to approve you? I want to have this done and need it bad because I am having health problems and the doctor has told me I better get the weight off. But my health insurance has said to me that they have a requirement of a 6 month supervised diet within the last two years to get it approved. I went to curves for women for a year but it has been more than two years and weight watchers threw away my information.

hello everyone

It's been awhile since I posted. I was approved about 2 weeks ago and am waiting for my surgery date. I had to go through alot of stuff like tests and dieting. I think it's just part of the process. I am nervous too about what it all will be like but I am soooo ready for a change of life style. I just turned 50 and am looking forward to a heathly thinner future. Just hang in there it will be o.k.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
