SO Happy

So I've been very pessimistic lately :cool2: I have felt like crap since surgery. I just didn't expect to be this down 13 days out. My port site aches very badly, I have no appetite and have to force myself to eat. I feel queezy and low on energy. But I have talked all this over and what I feel is "normal" (told by my surgeon and my good friends on this site).

Sorry if I sound like a drag, but this is my personal experience, however different it may be from others. I think it may also have to do with the fact there was so much built up to actually BEING banded for 9 months of fighting different insurance companies.

BUT I am feeling better, and today I noticed something I am very very pleased with! I get full on such tiny portions! It's like a thin person eats, so I think I am seeing the light at the end on the tunnel.

To anyone out there feeling as crappy as I am, I hope you see a gimmer of light somewhere soon too !

Try to stay positive. I was 'full' on tiny portions for the first 3 weeks, and then my hunger returned with a vengeance. Embrace that tiny portion 'full' feeling and work it for all you can. With a fill or two, you'll be back to that feeling after you are healed. Stay positive and focus on that! focus on the fact you have COMPLETELY CHANGED YOUR LIFE! You have a tool that gives you control!

You are not alone! A lot of us experience down feelings or a little depression right after surgery because we've lost a HUGE comfort/crutch/friend. Once you see that scale drop, your clothes get looser and how little food it takes to satisfy you it turns around. Hang in there, keep getting support, and know that it gets better. This is a huge change we've made and our brains don't change overnight! Good luck

Hang in there. It will only get better. Make sure you are sipping your water! I found that warm broth felt good going down in the early stages.

Wow, memories...

and, I have never really been hungry or able to eat large amounts since. I guess I lucked out, because my hungry hasn't come back 3 months post op.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
