Just wanting to throw my story out there. So I was banded on Oct 13.. Surgery went really well. I was told I had a large hernia prior to surgery. So that was also taken care of . I woke up with insane shoulder pain.. Which went on for a week or so. Now working on two weeks. Still really sore.. My stomach is still sore. I swear felt as it they sewed large object in there. . Now belly is itchy.. and still somewhat painful. I am just wondering if my recovery is so long due to the hernia... I have read where people have surgery and right back to work I have taken two weeks off..

I also had a hernia repair and that was the worst pain ever-in my neck and shoulders. The pain meds did not touch that pain. My stomach was fine the next day, but I had shoulder pain for over a week. A hiatal hernia repair requires manipulation of the diaphram with sends referred pain to the neck and shoulder area. Also they pump gas in you abdomen for a laproscopic surgery which tends to make the shoulders hurt for several days. These two things together hurt really bad---worse than my two previous csections---probably just because it's an achy/flu type pain that doesn't respond to pain meds. Hang in there. It will get better.

I haven't had my band yet but I have had several surgeries for endometriosis and a hysterectomy, I had a lot of shoulder pain after each, it was due to the gas they use to "float" your intestines and other organs out of the way. They always told me to sleep propped up so the gas wouldn't settle under my shoulder blades...

Hope you are feeling better soon!

I was banded on Oct 3rd and I took 2 weeks off too. I just didn't feel up to moving around that much for several days, and I had to force myself to get to walking. Give yourself a break, we just had a fairly major thing happen to our bodies...everyone is different so let yourself have time to heal. We are so good at being hard on ourselves aren't we. I'm back to work this week, but I'm still tired and sore.

I had surgery this past Monday (10/20). I too have had quite a bit of shoulder pain and pain associated with the CO2. I was told if I stayed completely down I would suffer longer or I could walk, walk and walk some more to help break it up. Day 2 was pretty bad, minimal walking. Day 3 was still painful, pushed myself to get up and walk more. Today, day 4, I've actually got a fair amount of relief, up walking around the house a lot and a couple of trips outside. I'm still tender/sore, still taking the pain meds, but I can definately feel the improvement.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
