Anyone else "afraid" to start on solid food?

Recommended Posts

I guess afraid is not the right word, more like I'm nervous. I don't feel any restriction (duh! I was just banded), but I could tell when the swelling went down by how my water/fluids go down. My surgeon say I can start eating soft foods, like fish - but I'm nervous. I know I can't live off broth and protien drinks - so little bites at a time, I guess.

Anyone else feel/felt like this?

Oh, I am too. I am a newbie too, surgery on Oct 8. I've one more week on 'creamy soups' and day 21 is the start of my solid food. I am confused as to what food I should start with? I was thinking of having Fiber cereals to get my BM going! HA! Then have some bacon, eggs and cheese for lunch. I am not sure for dinner yet! AND, that is just the first day! LOL

I'm a little anxious about getting to solids also. I'll be happy to have something that doesn't have to be pureed first. I am also worried about getting something stuck... I even had a dream about it only I woke up before I found out whether I got the food out or not. LOL  I probably sound pretty silly. An egg with mushrooms and ff cheese sounds wonderful and pretty safe. I can't to see what the doc says tomorrow at my first follow-up appointment.

I'm getting nervous about starting on solid foods. I guess I just need to take it slow & easy.

I felt the same way and still do - banded end of October. I heard rumors about food getting stuck and was scared that would happen to me. Thus far, it hasn't. I haven't eaten any beef like steak, but everything I do eat I chew and chew and chew. It makes my meal last long and so far it's working.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
