I just had my first fill on 10-20-08....surgery was 9-22-08. It went fine so don't worry, only hurt for about 1 second and not exactly hurt, just uncomfortable when the big needle went in but it was essentially painless. I was on liquids for 24 hours then on to soft foods for 2 days, then back to regular foods. I didn't think I could tell any difference at all the first couple of days, then last night I got stuck on a stewed Tomato for about 5 minutes...again it wasn't painful just uncomfortable like I needed to burp big time but couldn't. Good luck....hope this helps!!

Good morning First fillers. Always remember that after a fill to do your liquids and soft foods for a couple of days. For some reason the band takes time to adjust. I have had 6 fills, different amounts 1.5,1.0, &.5. total of 6.5 cc in a 10 cc. Every thing goes down fine wth the liquids. For me the change always comes on day 6,7, or 8. The restriction is there, it could be from jsut getting back to regular foods that after the liquids yu have atendency to forget how to eat and chew after only a 4 day hiatus. I have sen somepeople that it took two weeks for the restriction to set in. Everyone is different. Main thing give it time, dont push those tough foods, Restriction is good, I lose my most lbs in the two weeks right after a new fill. As long as I and my tummy is losing fat the inside silicone band will loosen each time. So relax and follow the rules. This is journey learn the right way. They may do the barium and the FLouro scope on your first fill to make sure the restriction is there and to hit the port on the first stick. Sorta neat to watch. Good luck remember to take notes in your journal or food log on how things went and how you feel.

Hi. I just had my first fill yesterday. I am seven weeks out from surgery and all is well. My first fill was a little tough though but going okay now. My doctor did 4ccs at first in my fill. He hit the port on the first try by just having me lay flat and then do a parial sit up. I was suprised he wanted to put so much in the first time but he is the expert. Anyway after the fill he gave me a cup of Water and asked me to slowly drink it and left the room. I took 3-4 sips and it got stuck. The nurse came back in to check and I told her what happened. She gave it some time to go down but it didn't. Finally after about 20 minutes and it hadn't gone down my doctor came back and took out 1cc. So my total first fill was 3ccs. The rest of yesterday I spent on Clear Liquids. Today I am back on Protein Shakes and cream Soups. Tomorrow mushy food, etc... So far so good. So don't worry about the fill. It will go fine. Just make sure to drink some water before you leave his office to make sure everything goes down okay. Good luck and keep up the good work.

I think it all depends on how much they put in on the first fill. Mine was only 1cc but I have seen posts on here that people have gotten up to 4.5cc's. I had my surgery on August 20th and have had 3 fills since then. I am now up to 4.5 cc's in a 10cc band. I didn't feel any of the fills until this one. I couldn't believe what a difference 1-2cc's made but trust me it made a huge difference. As far as the fill itself, that is a breeze. I was shocked that it didn't hurt...you can barely feel a pinch. They have gotten my port everytime on the first try. I know that everyone's experience is different, but I am sure yours will go just fine. After my fills I am to be on liquids for the rest of the day and soft/mushies for the next day then back to normal. I have noticed that I really need to chew alot better because with this fill I have gotten food stuck a few times. It does move after a minute or so (or a sip of water) but it can be really uncomfortable. So thats pretty much what made me realize just how much of a difference my last fill made. Again everyone is different. Good luck and keep us updated on your progress!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
