Bandsters Nov 17-21

Recommended Posts

Hi all! My name is Racheal, and I am going to be banded on Tuesday the 18th as well. I am super nervous. My doc put me on an Atkins type diet...and that has been pretty easy to adhere to...I've done it before. I've lost about 15 pounds since my first visit in August, so I'm super excited about that. Super seems to be the word of the day for me, sorry! Well, our week is almost here...good thoughts and prayers for all!!!

I am doing okay...I am hungry a lot of the time but not starving, and i think a lot of it is head hunger. I am not having a growly tummy or anything, no symptoms of low blood sugar. Just not full the way I prefer to be. Its been a challenge, but I am almost there. Surgery is Friday and I have lost 6.6 lbs in the last 10 days, which thrills me!

Hey, y'all (Texan transplant), another 21st here! Wow, it happened FAST! Went to the seminar 10/1 and here I am. Insurance only required a psych eval.

Doc has had me on liquids since last Friday -- no more than 50g of carbs, and as close to 80-100g of Protein as possible. So far I've been getting in about 120, and tons of Water. How much can one person pee, anyway? :(

Little hungry right now, but it's the first I've felt "hungry" since I started. From Friday morning to Monday morning I lost 10 pounds! WOWZA! I've always lost fast in the beginning, but nothing like that.

I'm very excited, as everybody else is here. My surgery isn't until 2:30pm on Friday, so it's gonna be a long day. Only a sip or two of Water and nothing else.

Had my surgery yesterday and my surgeon told my best friend (who was the one at the hospital with me in the day--husband stayed with me overnight and brought me home today) that it was textbook perfect. Hooray! I am pretty gassy and achy, but not feeling TOO much pain except when i cough or laugh, both of which I'm trying to limit. =) Doc prescribed stadol for me, but so far at home today I've been making due with liquid Tylenol.

I have to say that this all went much better than I expected, and I'm glad to still be able to say that it was a lot easier to go through than my C-section two years ago! Now, if only I can avoid any of the other complications that creep up, I will be a very happy girl!

Congrats to my fellow bandsters who have had the surgery, and good luck and blessings to those who are going in the next couple of weeks.

Hello Notorious Novembers! I had my surgery on Tuesday, and I got to go home that afternoon. The doc said everything went as smooth as can be...he wished he'd have videotaped it because it went so well! I am home and a little sore and a little gassy, but it's all worth it! I haven't had much appetite yet, so I haven't put a whole lot into my body other than Water. That's all I had Tuesday. I had a cup of broth and a sugar-free Jello yesterday. Today I am trying a Slim Fast shake...I'm going slow to pace myself and make sure I don't make myself sick! I agree with Kaitiana, this is much less difficult than a c-section...but still sore. Good luck to everyone who has already had their surgery, going in today or the near future! Hope your surgeries go just as smoothly as the ones being posted on here recently!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
