Hi from Austin Texas and Pasadena California

Yes I'm in both lol, what a paradox o.O

I haven't gotten the procedure yet and am on the ...long...procedure to hopefully getting it. I'm slightly discouraged because even though I've been trying to lose the weight on my own and have made the hard decision that it would be better to just get the band, I'm still being jerked around by insurance companies. Very very frustrated actually now that I think about it. :/ Hopefully it will get better.

Hi SugarFerret! I am from Austin, TX as well! I go in a week from today to hopefully get my surgery date. Are you having the surgery done in Austin or CA? I am having it done at Southwest Bariatrics with Dr. Brady.

Stewy929, I'm in Austin too. I was banded on October 3,2008. My doctor is Dr. Brady also. Don't you just lover her? I took a list of questions I had, because I always forget to ask something, and she was just as patient as good be. And really made me feel good. I plan on going to the support group on Nov. 13th. I really enjoy this forum and I want to actually meet people that either have been banded or are waiting for the surgery. I go in next week for my first fill.

Good Luck with your surgery and I hope you have a speedy recovery.

Lonestarloser...how exciting someone from home! I'm hoping to get my surgery date next week. I am so anxious to get this surgery done. I love Dr. Brady..she is so sweet. I am sure I will attend the suppoort groups after I am banded. How is your recovery going?

Stewy929.. I had my first post-opt appointment last week and I am doing well. The incisions are healing nicely. The first three days were the worst I think. They were not really bad, I was just sore. The 3rd day I had gas really bad, but I used the Gas-X strips and walked and it all went away. I took two weeks off of work and just came back this past Monday. I have lost 30lbs. since I started my pre-op diet. Last week I didn't lose anything but Dr. Brady said that is normal and she was happy with the weight loss so far. I am ready for my fill. I am really starting to get hungry in between meals, so I just drink a lot of Water.< /p>

Good luck.

I'm actually doing it in Northern California, I wish I was doing it in Austin. But since one of my insurances is Kaiser in California, I'm forced to go to California. Mostly because if I did the procedure in Austin, I'd have to use Medicare and....to be honest I'd rather use Kaiser lol. I can't imagine how hard it would be to find someone who'd take Medicare for this procedure. :/

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
