Hi Everyone,

I'm 38 y/o kinda newly married (2 1/2 years) no children yet but hopefully that will happen. Also I have diabetes type 2, coronary artery disease, and sleep apnea. My surgery is pending I have my 1:1 with my surgeon Dr. Daniel Jones @ the Beth Isreal next month, then all I'll need is insurance approval.

I know 4 people who have had the Lap Band unfortunately only 1 of them has bothered to follow the program, but she's expecting now so her band has been loosened. Three of them have basically perfected finding ways to eat around the band, in a manner of speaking.

Most of my trouble is while grocery shopping, I don't over by but I always look at the treats. I manage to fight temptation most of the time, does anyone have any advise on how to avoid it all the time??? Any and all advise is truly welcomed.

Hi Theresa:

As far as the grocery store goes, can you make a list and put only one treat on it and stick to the list? Can you get your Husband to shop for you? Never go in hungry, because that's always going to make you buy more than you should.

Best wishes to you. I've been banded 1 1/2 years and I'm only about 10 miles away if you have more questions.....

Sue

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
