Living In The Land Of Band

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone,

I was banded on June 28, its been a week .Minimal amount of pain my worst episode was having to drink the yellow Fluid from the bowels of hell.,omg that is the most foulest tasting liquid on earth.

I'm doing better everyday managed to walk around the neighborhood for 30 minutes yesterday.

experienced some discomfort my first few days at home.. gas and difficulty getting out of the bed. thank GOD for GAS-X AND 2 STRONG ARMS...

Had lost 10 pounds before surgery, and 10 this week.

staying on the liquid diet but have upgraded to creamy Soups made watery..its really a threat after bland liquids for days. Vitamins, water and the

Protein drink

HOPE EVERYONE HAD A GREAT 4th.

Debbie, I'll bet that what they had you drink wasn't barium. Barium is a bland, slightly chalky Fluid that is often used during fills, so don't be afraid of it. But when I had surgery there was some other hideous Fluid used to test me right afterwards, and I almost gave up the ghost right there. Omnipaque? It's got some name like that I can never remember--denial, I'll bet. Maybe one of the nurses here can remind me what it's called. But oh man, I'll never forget that horrific taste and the vivid retching it induced. What were they thinking?

Anyway, it's over and you're in bandlandia. Welcome!! Here's hoping you have a quick and uneventful recovery. :(

Man I'm starting to realize HOW lucky I am that I didn't have to drink any of that yucky stuff! Wow. Okay, so I may be stuck on liquids longer than other folks, but I'll take comfort that I didn't have to drink the barf making liquid!!

Congrats on your band MZFAB50!! You sound like you are doing great!!

what I had to drink smelled and felt and tasted like what I would imagine suntan oil to taste like.

It wasn't horrible but did make me gag.

It had a slightly coconutty smell and was very think whitish stuff felt thick and gross maybe even oily feeeling on the way down and I am pretty sure was supposed to have some sort of tropical flavor. I thought this was barium..was it???

I'm laughing because I remember them trying to trick me with that coconut liquid, as if I were drinking a Pina Colada. The stuff I had to drink was called "Cheetah." I had to drink a bottle of Cheeta (twice, actually) an hour before going in for upper GI tests. I don't think it's the same as barium, but not much different.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
