Hi, I got banded on October 7th at TLC Edge. I've been reading different topics on the site & thought I should go ahead and sign up. It's been two weeks, not having any problems but not losing any weight. What's up with that?

Are you still on liquids or on to the mushy(puree stage now)? Are you walking, getting in plenty of Protein and walking some more. Since you cant do any exersize except walking and your isometrics to ward off those blood clots. You are still in the beginning stages, be patien and walk some more. lots of fluids. your main objective now is to heal and get your strength back slowly. You still have alot of internal swelling that you don't see. To keep the gas at bay walk lots of little short walks during the day and add about 5 minutes each day. Protein to heal, walking for the gas. liquids to keep you hydrated.

Thanks for the advice. I have not been doing any formal exercise at all, and know I need to do that.

Any suggestions regarding carbs? Seems like I added carbs after surgery and stopped losing weight. I'm almost 3 weeks post surgery, I've got no restrictions, seems like I can eat about 2+ cups of anything without a problem. I haven't tried any raw veggies yet, or nuts or cheese.

Hi New Kid,

Congrat's on your band. Mine was on Oct 17th Dr. says yes you can still eat but if you want this to successful eat SMALL amounts not 2plus cups at a sitting. Eat often chew to baby food consistancy. And don't allow yourself to feel hungry so you will eat fast and a lot. You should be getting yourself in condition for your fills. Then your life will turn around if you let it. I have read some people can still eat foottlong subs. And they are wondering why they not losing either. Please make this a fun and rewarding experience for yourself. Eat very small amounts and at least 6 times or more a day. Get the Vitamins in as well.Only you can do it for yourself keep us posted good luck

Hey I am very concerned that you are putting 2 cups full in at any one meal. in a 3 meal day. Your pouch will be stretched to smithereens and no wonder you will have to eat more and more to satisfy yourself.

The band is a tool and will not do the job for you. Some restraint is NEEDED.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
