Pre-Op Anesthesiologist (sp?) Appt?

Recommended Posts

Did anyone have a pre-op surgeon and a pre-op anesthesiologist appt? I saw the surgeon, got my surgery date..now I have to go back and see the anethesiologist. It is a 2 hr drive one way and it seems like a long wat to go. Seems like I can do this before my surgery on the day of surgery. Does anyone know why we have to do this and did you have to do this?? :grouphug:

I had my surgery consult on Sept. 30. And I have my all day pre-op testing on Nov. 5th -- on that day I will also see the anesthesiologist. Yeah, it's odd, when I had sinus surgery 2 years ago -- I met the guy like an hour before my surgery. So who knows. Too bad you have to drive so far. My surgeon is like 1 mile from my house - so it doesn't matter how many times I have to go back.

Yes I met with both surgeon and the anesthesiologist before surgery. It's part of my program. They explained what they were going to do and how they would do it. I was pleased with it.

I had my pre-op with the surgeon in his office about a week prior to surgery. He went over my bloodwork and EKG and reviewed the whole process. The nurse went over how to get pre-admitted to the hospital and surgery aftercare. And they took my downpayment for surgery. I didn't meet with the anesthesiologist until the day of surgery, he came into the pre-op room and introduced himself and went over what he would be doing.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
