Lump that isn't Port

Recommended Posts

hello everyone :grouphug: i was banded on oct 7th, so i'm 2 weeks out today. i have healed well and i'm feeling great. i can feel my little port which is about two inches up, and to the right of my belly button (right under my largest incision, naturally)... i get that...but about two inches up and to the right of my port...i feel a much larger 'bump' (almost feels like a swollen muscle or something)..just wondering if this is normal for lap band? i was thinking it might be my stomach or something, but i think the stomach is more to the left. it doesn't hurt at all, and i've had no problems whatsoever...my appt for my first fill is november 18th, so ill definitely ask then..but just wondering if any of you could had something similiar and already found the answer.

sounds like it might be scar tissue forming. i have some underneath the actual incision and i was banded on 9-9

just keep an eye on it, but it sounds like it is fine.

good luck

Hi,

I had my surgery on the same day and I have the same thing. I asked my surgeon what the hard lump was and he said it was fat tissue. I thought it was the port but he said it was probably two inches below my skin and the hard lump was fat. I still don't get why it would be so hard but that's what he said. I plan to ask him how long it will last at my next appointment.

I have that too, I was banded on 09/19/08 and everything is fine. It just is weird. When I go get my fill under flouro, I am going to ask if they can tell me what it is, I figured it was where they sewed the tube in but what do I know. I have no clue. If you find out, let us know ok?

definately will...i was thinking where they anchored the tubing in was a possible scenario too. well find out the answer soon enough! :grouphug:

It sounds like what you are describing is the band itself. It will be interesting to hear what your doctor says.

I have a lump--egg-shaped is a good description--about an inch or two above and to the right of my belly button. Now that I am at goal weight, it is pronounced enough that I can see it when my clothes are off. Weird, huh? Anyway, I know that is the location of my band. It took me a looonggg time before I could feel it...I had a lot of fat to lose first! :grouphug: Julie

I just had my first fill, and the lady who did it, told me that big lump was scar tissue. She said at first it is hard to tell the scar tissue from the port, but eventually it will go down.

I'm wondering what the verdict was on this? I have the same exact thing, except mine is sore. That's how I found it. It is NOT my port. I only have it on my right side, same side as my port. I have felt my left side and can't find anything similar - not to mention it is sore. Could it be the band or is it just scar tissue/fat tissue that was moved from the operation? Could it be part of the tubing from the band to the port?

I'm two weeks post op and I won't see my dr for another two weeks.

I have the same thing, I thought it was my port. But no, when I got my first fill I think my surgeon said it's a 'healing ridge' - which I forgot to ask him to elaborate on. I just looked it up on an online medical dictionary: a healing ridge is an indurated ridge that normally forms deep to the skin along the length of a healing wound. I researched a few other sites, it seems that this 'ridge' is formed when surgery is done, there's a scar and essentially your body is at work to heal it. Everything I've read says the ridge should 'melt' or diminish with time. Mine isn't so much egg-shaped, though, but more like a thick worm. It aches sometimes. But from what I've read, the ridge is a good thing, as it's evidence that the body is working to heal itself. Hope this helps!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
