Lump that isn't Port

Recommended Posts

I have the same thing. Only one side -left, above the port, egg like and painful. I wondered if it wasnt the band too but isnt your stomach beneath your ribs? It is sort of freaking me out to be honest.

Anyone find out what it is yet?

Also, if you're newly out - I am 2 days now - what are you managing to get down? I'm trying to get some shakes in but its hard. It takes me an hour just to drink one.

I think I thought this would be a little easier than its turned out to be.

there's some info on this site that talks about this egg-shaped thing inside of all of us -- from what i understand it is the body's reaction to surgery and is a sign that the body is healing normally -- it moves down as you lose weight too -- mine was about 2 inches above my incision the first few weeks following surgery -- i've lost about 35 pounds now and it's moved down right under my incision -- very hard -- sore because of where it is -- but it's not the port. A friend of mine had this surgery a year ago and she said that hers has moved down as she's lost weight too. She said her port still hurts sometimes but this egg shaped thing is eventually supposed to go away -- i know i'm ready!

My egg shaped thing actually ended up being my port. I went to my post op visit and asked the doctor what it was and he said it was my port. I told him that I could feel my port at my incision and that this was about 3" above my incision. I was wrong. What I was feeling at my incision must have been scar tissue. He said that when I lay down, the egg shaped thing will move down to my incision and that was actually my port. When I'm upright, my port moves up.

Auggies, me too - two weeks out and that is the thing that sometimes give me a stabbing pain. So, I guess it's not the port...my primary doc thought it might be a "route" they took through the fat during surgery, but she wasn't sure, but at least I was happy to know it wasn't a hernia.

It sounds to be like healing barrier. I'm not sure the technical terminology for it. It happened at the area of a large incision. I had gall bladder surgery and one day I was lying on my stomach in bed and I jumped up..feeling a lump underneath where the incision was healing. I called my doctor and he reassured me that it was a good sign and a normal process in healing. It's like a scar that heals inside out....

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
