Got my second fill today

Recommended Posts

Even though I've been losing weight, I wasn't feeling any restriction. I could pretty much eat however much and whatever I wanted to. I was just controlling my portions, but the lack of restriction left me open to a couple of bad food choices like a handful of Fritos and sharing some popcorn with my wife. These are things that I shouldn't have been able to eat easily, but they were no problem.

Rather than let my couple of bad choices snowball into a string of bad choices, I elected to have my second fill today, 4 weeks after my first fill. I've got a 9 cc Realize band and already had 4 cc of saline in it from fill #1.

The NP didn't have any trouble locating the port or hitting it with the needle. She drew out 3 cc of the existing saline then added it back with 1 more on top. I guess that brings me to 5.

I was burping when I swallowed Water at the Dr's office and she thought that she might have me a little too tight. I am drinking OK now (4 hours later), but still burping a little and I can really feel the restriction. Hopefully this will get me to my "sweet spot", if I can ever figure out where that actually is. I know that it's a moving target, but hopefully I'll know it when I get there, so I can gauge when I need how much of a fill.

I was really tight when I first had my fills. It seems to loosen up as the weeks go by. I have had two fills, the first was really tight for about 1.5 weeks, then it loosened up. By my second fill I was getting really hungry. I have been pretty tight with this one and it seems to be working fairly well. I hope it doesn't get loose! My doc said to call in and get my next fill as soon as I was not feeling full when I ate. That was pretty nice - I won't have to wait a set amount of time!

Help, I am confused. I got my first fill on 8 Oct. I am at 4cc in a 10cc band. I have been experiencing a lot of things getting stuck and it hurting and have had one episode of PBing. Sometimes I can eat a LOT of food at one sitting and other times even the littlest piece of well chewed food feels like it is stuck and I stop eating because I am afraid of more getting stuck. So sometimes I feel like I need a fill but then other times I feel like I need to be loosened a little. How do you know when you have hit your "sweet spot"?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
