Hi Y'all!

I have never been part of a chat, forum, blog or the like before, so assuming this message doesn't end up in Oz I want to say hello and join in the fun (?) I am 5'11 and weigh a svelte 300. I live in California with my husband of nearly 30 years, a black lab and a pit bull mix. I am a very successful dieter having lost hundreds of pounds and a dismal failure at maintaining weight loss. I came close to having the band earlier this year but decided to try a few more fad diets first just in case. Currently I own and operate two arthritic hips, arthritic knees and low back trouble, sleep apnea, depression, anxiety...but other than that I am just fine.

My parents treated me to a 2 week vacation which was wonderful with the exception of unrelenting hip and back pain. With this experience fresh in my mind I came to the conclusion that it was time to get the additional help that banding offers.

I am excited and frightened. I am blessed with an amazingly supportive husband (I'll get back to you once I have lost some weight) with weight and blood pressure issues of his own. We've done the dance of undermining each other during weight loss attempts before which added to my concern about banding,

I have struggled with the joint pain for so long that it almost seems laughable to ask how bad it is during the first few days of recovery. Sooooo were most of you able to get pain relief post op ? Did you lie in bed asking, "Why did I agree to this controlled stabbing?"

I am very grateful to have the band option. I am a bit of a sponge right now trying to soak up information but hope to help others as my journey continues. I see my surgeon on Thursday and by then may have a bucket full of questions to ask him. Example; I hadn't really considered the medications thing. I've had to take strong painkillers for my joints and hope that having done so won't make it harder to manage my post-op pain.....more will be revealed but if you have had similar experience I'd love to hear from you.

Congratulations to all of you!

Hello, and welcome! I am 6 days post-op and down 23 pounds. The only pain I had at all was severe left shoulder pain which everybody said was from gas. I admit I have used an entire box of Gas-x strips, but you know what? Woke up yesterday pain free and havent had any since! The ONLY regret I have so far is that I waited until I was 54 years old to do this.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
