Yes I have had the same problem. I was banded on 9-30-08 and I don't get my fill until Nov 7th. I am anxiously and patiently (kind of) waiting.

Hey! I was banded on the 9/24 - I have not gained - but have read on here where people have. As for being hungry is it that or is your mind and stomach still trying to regroup from all the changes you have made lately. That is something that I faced - my stomach would be making all kinds of sounds (that made me think I was hungry) - but when it came down to it I really was not.

The nurse told me to drink some Water when I have that filling and if does not go away then I am hungry and should eat something. But if it does then it's just my body adjusting to all the changes I have made to it.

Good Luck!

Based on what I've read on this site (and I think I've read it all, haha) it seems the consensus that most people gain a few pounds at the mushies stage. On liquids you tend to lose fast, but as soon as you introduce solids back into the picture that weightloss stops while your body gets used to have real food again. Add to that the fact that most mushies are high in carbs, and it's almost impossible to not gain a few pounds during mushies. Once you have your first fill you should be on the road to success though - just stick it out! :Dancing_biggrin:

I will try the Water thing, My stomach is always fill of gas...I am thinking of trying to do the pre-op diet again to start losing again. I can't wait for my fills to start...And with the fills I have heard that several are needed sometimes before you get to the "Sweet Spot"..I will try and keep the faith on this one...Good luck to all.

I know exactly what you are feeling like. I got banded on 10-7. I lost 8 lbs pre-op and 7 pounds the first week post-op. About 3 days after I went on the the "mushies" I gained back 2 lbs!!! I can't believe it - the volume of food is so low and healthy versus some of the "junk" food I ate for the past 20 years!

I'm thinking that maybe My body has gone into calorie preservation due to my food intake. I actually started to exercise (walking and recumbent bike for 45 minutes a day) but haven't seen a loss in weight. My newest resolve - only weigh myself once a week rather than the twice daily that I have been doing because I am getting very discouraged about the lack of progress and back sliding.

My first post op visit is this afternoon. Hopefully, I can get my first fill soon because I'm Hungary! :Dancing_biggrin:

Hey! I had my surgery on 9/30/08... and am on my second week of mushies. I was losing quite a bit weekly, and my weight loss has slowed since on mushies. I think that it is only natural that the weight loss becomes slowed and/or weight gain due to the change in diet. I know that when I was on full liquids, there wasn't much that I ate that was over 100 cal, thus my weight loss was rapid. I weigh myself on Thursday, as I ONLY weigh myself once a week to avoid preoccupation and panic with the "numbers game". I am also VERY hungry, but get my first fill 11/13... hang in there.... we can do this... and in the words of my wise bariatric RN "it is not a sprint, it is a marathon"- shout out to Terry Marentette at Oakwood Hospital in Dearborn, MI!!

Don't forget that with the 2 week pre-op liquid and 2 week post-op clear liquid only diet your metabolism is going into "starvation" mode - meaning it is going to slow down and protect and hold onto every calorie. So when you are in this slowed down metabolism and you start to add food - naturally you are going to gain weight. Hopefully you can start exercising at this point and get that metabolism stoked up again.

The time between your surgery and your first fill is for your body to heal. Any weight that you gain is very minimal compared to what you would be gaining if you were not banded. Now is not the time to worry about gaining or losing. I had the similar thing happen after my surgery. I am now two years out and have lost 85#. Take a deep breath and give yourself a break. You will be losing in no time.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
