travelinsnorkel 0 Posted October 21, 2008 Has anyone else had really bad breath post-op? I'm one week out and I wake up with what can only be described as skunk breathe and I notice my mouth tasting bad off and on through the day.
kiz 1 Posted October 21, 2008 Ketosis: What is Ketosis? Is Ketosis Dangerous? How to Detect Ketosis Yes, it's pretty normal if you're eating/drinking a low carb diet. I had a metalic taste in my mouth, but the bad breath pretty much went away after a couple of days for me.
temmaddie 0 Posted October 21, 2008 It's called ketosis. Just google the word, and it will bring up everything you need to know. I believe your body is using fat for energy, there is part of that molecule called acetone (sp??) that can't be used, and is excreted as waste. Which means it would come out through your breath or urine. LOTS of people get this when losing weight this way! Hope that helps!
Tamihott 0 Posted October 21, 2008 Yep! It sucks when your kids tell you that your breath is bad. I was wondering if it goes away, and boom three weeks post op it went away. I still feel like I always need to brush my teeth though. Tamara

travelinsnorkel 0 Posted October 21, 2008 Wow Geneviève...I'm impressed by your weight loss since June! Was that all lost since you were banded, or did you start losing before? Keep up the good work! I suppose a little bad breath is a small price to pay for a while for weight loss!
msavoy4901 0 Posted October 21, 2008 I'm having the same problem. I thought it was from the Protein Shakes but I guess not. I want to brush my teeth all the time.
