how often should I be eating

Recommended Posts

I am 11 days post op and on mushies. I know that I am in Bandster Hell because of the hunger however, while I was on liquid I lost 9 punds. Since I have been on mushies I have gained 2 pounds back. I am eating the stuff I am suppose to eat, however, I am hungry about every 2 hours. There were no guidelines given to me about this time, but I am starving and scared. I don't want to gain but my head is starting to hurt trying to not eat. How often should I eat during Bandster Hell???:tongue2:

During this time, my doctor told me to eat as often as I needed to, but to make sure to flush the stoma after each meal. You should really call you doctor though to find out what he/she thinks.

Seems like there are as many post-op diet instructions as there are doctors. My doctor told me to eat ONLY 3 meals a day and NO snacking between meals. To keep from being too hungry and/or eating, I do drink plenty (water, tea, Propel water). Sometimes I get headaches if I am not getting enough liquids. It is hard. Try to find things to do to keep your mind off of food. Good luck to you. Becky

You are right about that. My doctor believes in that too, just not until you start on solid foods. I don't think, though, that I have seen the same instructions any where except where the people have the same doctor.

I haven't been banded yet. My surgery is Dec 10th. Have you tried Protein Water. The Protein helps to quell that hunger between meals.

It is made by Special K. It comes in dry powder and premixed. I found it near the Protein Bars at CVS. I saw it online at Amazon with free shipping.

Personally, I hate Walmart and refuse to shop there on general principles but I am sure you can find it there as well.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
