stretched pouch

Recommended Posts

just curious if it's possible to stretch out your pouch.... i have a little over 8ccs in my band and sometime i can eat quite a bit - other times i can only eat a small amount.... and yes i have restriction.

is it possible to stretch your pouch? if so, what can you do to reverse it?

I asked my NP this on my last fill and she said it is very unlikely. I have also asked my surgeon and my NP about the inconsistant restriction and they said it is all a mystery. Although, they said the reason for it being tighter in the morning is due to sleeping.< /p>

Stretching your pouch is very very possible. Especially if you over eat on a regular basis. It's a part of your stomach and your stomach will stretch if over filled!!! If you watch the amount you eat then you should be okay!

i was overfilled for about 2 months... PB'ing after almost every meal. i knew i should have gone in for an unfill sooner but i was afraid of gaining weight back but then i was also afraid of my band slipping.

my stoma was slightly stretched over the band because i was too tight and the food was sitting in the stoma too long and not draining thru the band fast enough.

i got a slight unfill and have to wait 2 months until i can get another fill... hopefully things went back to normal!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
