Nervous Newbie!!

Recommended Posts

I have arranged to have a band fitted by Dr.Chris on the 9th of January.. Its what Ive wanted for a long time and saved up for for years...but now I have a date, it all seems real, not a dream anymore!! Im nervous and wondering if Im doing the right thing?! Did others feel like this? Ive not told many people but those I have are trying to talk me out of it and saying Im stupid for going to another country, and making out its dangerous..They have not researched it like I have though (and they are all thin!) I have just read 28 pages of this brilliant forum and..it has really put my mind at ease.you all sound great. A friend has just had it done over here (sheffield) and its cost her £8k..! she has had fantastic results though, and I want some of that!!..she said the surgery only lasts 20 minutes,is that right?. Im sure you will help me get over my "have I done the right thing" thoughts!. Gillian x :tongue2:

I have been done 9 weeks today. like you i waited for a long time to be banded. when the date was set, i also questioned myself. But i stayed strong and did not deviate from my goal. It is by far the best thing i have ever done for myself and i have not regretted it for 1 min and i Thank God every day for keeping me strong enough to go through with it.

At the end of the day it was for me a very minor operation I had no complications and have not looked back i have lost nearly 2.5 stone and know with out this band, i would never stuck to a diet long enough to see the results i am seeing now, and i am only a few weeks into it.

I can for the first time in my life, see a light at the end of the tunnel. At the end of the day it is your descision to have the surgery or not, but I knew i could not live another day of my life feeling as bad as i did about myself at that time, I loathed my appearance and felt as i had betrayed myself to even allow Me to become what i had.

I really wish you luck on your journey and do not let ill informed ppl wilth basic to no knowledge of the band and its functions let you deviate from your final goal that you have set yourself. stay strong and belive me it is really an empowering feeling to get back some of your selfworth and belief in yourself by firstly setting the goal, but then to follow through and come out that other end, knowing that you have done the right thing.

good luck.

You will. She couldn't get her insurance to cover it. Although Group Health does cover it, my father in laws employer wouldn't allow it.

I'm having my surgery on the 25th of Nov. (I hope) Insurance will cover it, however my doctor won't schedule anything until insurance approves. As of yesterday he still have three openings on the 25th & and three on the 26th. They know insurance will pay for it, I have done everything they have asked. oh, well I just cross my fingers that they approve it within a good time frame. My last appt with dietitian is Nov. 4th. She said she would send over to my doctor that day. From there the gal says Aetna can take between 24 hours and 3 weeks depending which RN I get to approve it. I'm sure I will be on the phone a few days after that just to check in with the insurance company.

Good luck, and like you I CAN'T WAIT...

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
