SherryLuka 0 Posted October 20, 2008 I have started my Journey. Due to lack of insurance (self employed), I will be going to Mexico for my LapBand surgery. I am scared. But I have no other choice( I feel ). AND it looks like I will be going on my own, NO LESS. But this is so worth it. I have tentatively scheduled my surgery for the week of Thanksgiving. I am using Dr Mario Alberto Almanza Reyes, Mexicoweightlosssurgery.com or alighterme.com. Does anyone have any reviews or comments about this company before I put in my deposit? I am to fly into San Diego, Ca and they will take me across the border to Tijuana. Anyone?
billfresh 0 Posted October 20, 2008 i don't know your dr and honestly don't have a comment about who you use. i also went to mexico alone. i went to dr. Rodriquez in juarez. regardless of who you choose just do your homework about that dr. my reason for answering you is this. i was a selfpay and i own a business so don't be embarassed about being selfpay. be proud of what you are about to do for your health. 2nd thing...when i got down to the hospital and was put in that room all alone i had a mini freakout. no kidding. i thought what the hell am i doing here!!?? i wanted to bolt for the border. looking back it's funny but at the time it was not humorous at all. i was scared, felt totally alone, was nervous, ect..... point is it may or may not happen to you. if it does recognize you aren't the 1st to feel this way and let it happen but don't let it change your mind. see it thru and before you know it you are home and fine. good luck and God bless. SherryLuka 0 Posted October 20, 2008 Thanks for the comment because I am REALLY having my mini freak outs now, One day I am good next day I am crawling out of my skin. I am not ashamed of being a self pay. I just think its a "cryin shame."
shadowdancin 0 Posted October 20, 2008 How much is it across the border? How much money are we talking about? I live in Florida, self-pay, but my insurance does not cover banding. I paid $15,000....they do have finance plans for those who don't want to head south.
LanieB 0 Posted October 20, 2008 SherryLuka, I will be going to Tiajuana two weeks before you, but to a different dr. Mine is Dr. Martinez at the Obesity Control Center. My husband is going too, but he won't be much help since he's getting the surgery also. We're going to have to help each other, if possible. We're also flying in to San Diego. I understand your concerns, but honestly, I think everything will work out. For us and for you! We've done a lot of research, and I think we're doing the right thing. Think positive! Not bad, eh?
