Lily V 0 Posted October 20, 2008 Because of Insurance my lap band surgery is not scheduled till February 2009. I tried cutting down on my eating prior to the surgery since my dietician recommended it. It hasn't worked and I put more weight on. My husband is upset with me saying if I can't cut down now the lap band is not going to work. I am worried and wish I could have the procedure done sooner. What are your thoughts ? My husband is upset with me saying if I can't cut down now the lap band is not going to work. I am worried and wish I could have the procedure done sooner. What are your thoughts ? My advice (for what it's worth) is to stop worrying and just try and get in the right frame of mind for your surgery. What you eat now and what you will eat after are completely different. After your surgery you will have a physical barrier - the band - to prevent you from eating as much as before. f you don't believe then just wait and try. The results will be unpleasant to say the least. It really works and not only does it cut down on your food intake but it adds behavior modification by causing unpleasant symptoms if you eat to fast or too much. Pavlov proved more than a century ago that behavior can be modified by an external reinforced stimulus. Pavlov's dogs are proof and the band has similar characteristics. Lily V Good luck Lily. You may want to ask your husband to go with you to some LapBand support groups before your surgery so he can learn more about what will happen after you are banded.
