I just posted this on another thread...I read on this board where a bander used the yoga position 'downward facing dog' and it moved the food down immediately. I did it with gas pains and it worked like a charm. I'm hoping someone can let us know that it worked again with stuck food.

How exactly do you do a downward facing dog?

Let me know if it works. It seems counter intuitive, I mean wouldn't that make the food come back up?

I think that is what they want. I would only try this is I can't get it to go in the other direction. I hope, thought, to never have to use any of these.

gotta tell ya - though i love yoga; that would be the LAST position i would choose when stuck.

i feel i have to tilt my head up and stand up & walk.....i've left hubby at the bar for dinner many times to walk outside to work the stuck episode.

I know exactly what you mean. I walk around and take deep breaths to try and relax. So far, 5 minutes is about the longest episode I've had. It only happens when I forget to chew, chew, chew.

See, that is what I am scared of. I am so afraid of getting stuck in public. My episode didn't last long, but it moved really quickly out. I would never have been able to make it to a bathroom at work that quickly. I would have spit up on myself or something equally as gross. I really want to learn to avoid it all together. I know that is wishful thinking on my part, but a girl can dream.

i have "first" bite issues most times & i also appear tight in social settings. 9/10 a stuck episode is me not paying attention to what i'm eating or how much.

I walk around with shoulders and back as straight as possible and lift my hands into the air as if stretching....reach real high. That seems to help me.

I was banded last Wednesday and I have already eaten mashed potatoes, very thin shaved turkey, and I have chewed very very well until it's almost like swallowing liquid. Is this O.K.??? I was feeling so weak that I started eating a little more solid food, but chewing very well.

That is a question best answered by your doctor. I wouldn't eat any more solid food until you talk to him. Eating solid food makes your stomach churn which can cause the sutures in your stomach holding the band to tear.

Christy, I was just reading another post and they went off on a newbie for doing this. I am not going to go off on you, but I would go back to liquids or whatever stage you are supposed to be on. There are guidelines for a reason, eating solids to soon can do serious damage to your band. And the damage might not be apparent for months down the line. Please try to be more careful. If you are feeling weak, call your doctors office and ask them what you can have.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
