Stop! Don't take another bite!

Recommended Posts

Ok, what is your hint? What tells you that you had better not take another bite? I had my first PB the other day, but I don't know if I missed my hint. I didn't feel overly full or stuffed or anything. I was trying to eat slow. I just don't know. Help me figure this out?

You may have taken too big of a bite and your food got stuck. My hint is either the full feeling, gurggling sounds from my chest, or tightness across my upper stomach.

Slim,

What were you eating when this happened? It could have been caused by something not too band friendly or too much going down at one time. I have almost PB'd by too much, not chewed up good food. I get that deep chest discomfort and then it passes, but I don't like it so I chew, chew, chew.

I was eating a piece of chicken breast tenderloin. I had boiled it so that it wouldn't be dry. I didn't get the chest discomfort. It never left my throat. I did feel gurgling, but only after the bite was stuck in my throat.

i have this problem when i go out. at home i measure out my food & use a salad plate always. i have a "one more bite" issue when eating out & i usually feel a bit over stuffed - however i will notice that i get a hiccup & that really is the trigger that i'm DONE. i still take one more bite most times....and it takes FOREVER to get down.

Sounds like it wasn't chewed up too good. I am eating a piece of chicken breast right now and if I do not chew it into a puree, I pay dearly. Unfortunately, chicken breast cooked any kind of way is not too band friendly. I have resorted to chicken legs. Try the chewing til it's pureed first before giving Chicken breast up. Good luck to you.

Is there a trick to help it go down instead of up? I tried raising my arms, but since it was in my throat, that did nothing. I tried a sip of Water, but realized too late that was the wrong thing to do. It just gurgled pass the chicken.< /p>

I was afraid you were going to say that. I have eaten chicken wings with no problem, but have to admit that I prefer white meat chicken. I guess my tastes are going to have to change if I want to eat chicken.

I've not had the problem of getting food stuck in my throat. But when it goes down and feels like it's struggling to go down, I have made the mistake of drinking something and it makes it worse in my opinion. Not quite sure what to do in your case. Sorry I can't be much help.

i have found chicken thighs much easier to eat. a regular breast HAS to be "wet" like in a stir fry / crockpot / etc. otherwise i'm chewing forever and i really hate doing that.

walking help a "stuck" episode for me....

We're all in the same boat. We may as well support one another. I so appreciate all the veterans such as luluc. We're trying to get to where she is. Thanks luluc for being an inspiration! They are truly "band" savers!

I haven't been filled yet. But what I do is buy one of those rotissiere chickens. I remove the skin and cut off the chicken. It is more moist than chicken breasts. I add fat free chicken gravy sometimes then serve with mashed potatoes. Fortunately I have always preferred the dark meat of chicken and turkey. Good luck.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
