Puree Meat, I don't think so!

Hi guys! Moving on from a 2-3 day soft food diet to pureed tomorrow. The Dr wants me to be eating a lot of meat now. The book says I should ONLY worry about Protein right now, as I don't have room for fruit and veggies, yet.

Here's whats on my surgeon's specific list -

Leab animal and dairy Protein

Mozarella cheese, Lean Pork (sirloins or roasts preferred), Fish, Shellfish, tuna, Light or Dark meat Poultry....(beef is on there but I left it out since I don't eat it).

Anyway, this list sounds GREAT. But pureed? ! I am so sorry if I sound like a baby, but isn't that a liquid almost? I just can't imagine getting some tuna or shrimp and blending it until it's liquid and drinking it without gagging.

Any tips guys? Did any of you have this problem? Is it not as liquidy as I am thinking? Do you get used to it?

I am so grateful for your guys, I am truly blessed to have this place to come and ask questions from other bandsters that are kind and fair and know what I've gone through!! Thank you

My surgeon's office said that thin shaved turkey was good. I could eat it just like that. I pureed chicken breast. No, it wasn't liquid but it was very very finely chopped. You can add broth to it if you need to.

My chicken was very dry. More like very finely chopped. If I was allowed to eat shaved meat, then I figured this was fine. Some people add the low fat gravy to their meat.

Erk. I would definitely make a Soup of some description, with lean meat and lentils or Beans in it, AND vegetables, blend it all up. I'm sorry, yes Protein is the most important nutrient right now, your body will have enough stores of other things to miss out on veges for a few weeks but you're going to find it awful to eat, impossible to get down even, and you're going to get super duper duper constipated. And probably bloated and gassy too. ONLY meat or Protein for weeks? That's really not very doable. Focus on it yes, but Water it down with veges and broth so that you can at least swallow it!

And a moist vegetable like pumpkin and gravy and blended roast meat like beef or lamb was very palatable too.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
