For those of you who are banded - are you able to sleep on your stomach at some point AFTER you recover from surgery or will the port be in the way??? I am one who really sleeps better on my stomach and an worried that those days might soom be over.

I had my surgery 8/26 and have been sleeping on my stomach for a long time. I think after about 2 weeks I was able to turn to my stomach.

Honestly I slept on my stomach from night 2. First night I slept in bed on my side. I used a pillow to help brace my torso. night 2 was tummy time. I think it helped me heal quicker. Stretching out etc kept me from getting adhesions (scar tissue). It's not medical necessarily but it's logical. I've healed fine!

I could only sleep on my back with tons of pillows for the first week, week and a half after surgery but once I all the pain was gone I was able to go right back to sleeping on my side and belly.

I guess I must be super sensitive. I still cannot sleep on my stomach. It doesn't hurt, it just seems like I can feel my port. It may be my imagination. I can sleep on either side comfortably, but not the stomach. Go figure.

I sleep on my tummy all the time. I was able to move from my back to my tummy at about week 3 from surgery. I also have to finagle around my CPAP, too!

Hi... it took me about 6 weeks before I was really comfortable on my tummy, and Oh Boy! what a joy to stretch out.... up till then I was using pillows as support as I slowly went from back to side and over to

tummy sleeping... only area that sometimes hurts is if I do not lift myself before turning and drag the overweight area.. that seems to pull on the muscles around the port... but it is great to finally sleep on my tum. Cheers and Good Luck, Trish.

Thanks for all your feedback - there is hope out there that I will be able to return to normal at some point. Surgery is still a month away.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
