I had surgery a week ago and am feeling a ton better, but last night into today I've developed a nagging, itchy cough. It could be allergies, but it hurts a ton to cough. My Mom thinks I shouldn't take any cough meds, but I think that it is worse to cough so hard and possibly disrupt something inside. Any thoughts? Or cough meds suggestions that are good post lap band?

A cough can be indicative of so many things including stuff you'd never think of like acid reflux. Maybe you should talk to your surgeon before treating it.

I think you should talk to your surgeon before taking anything. I know you said your a week out so there could be a number of things it could be. I know when you are just out of surgery.. pneumonia is a concern.. with you being a week out it's prolly not that but better safe then sorry.

I had to cough a few times a few days after surgery.. just a weird tickle in my throat..so painful.. definitely find out if you can take something to help you stop coughing.

I'm a week out of my surgery and still have a cough. I spoke to my cousin (who is a surgeon), my surgeon is away until next week... but my cousin said it is normal because of the breathing tube and the iritation it causes. It's scary because it also hurts! I tell my Mom "It only hurts when I cough". I have a nebulizer for my asthma and that seems to have calmed the cough and breathing issues some. Has anyone experienced the same thing?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
