Need Lap Band Buddy / Mentor Anyone in the Denver area

Recommended Posts

Hello.....

A little about me.....I am a 38 year old female with 3 kids. I love bowling, gardening and playing online games on yahoo and pogo.

I got my Lapband on 10/10/08.....with Dr. Michael Snyder @ Rose Medical Center in Denver, Colorado. My surgery went great, my pain was very minimal, and my incisions are healing just fine. The problem is everything is going so well, I am not sure if I am doing things correctly because it seems effortlessly so far. I called the doctors office because I was concerned that I dont get full, I dont get hungry, and I can still drink alot of Water and I am following my pre-op diet, then I felt soooo stupid when the nurse said well you dont have any restriction yet so you really wont feel anything yet.....Boy DID I FEEL STUPID!!!......like if I just had someone to talk to about what I going through it would make it so much better.

I am very new to this forum and so far it seems to be very helpful and most likely I think I will be on here often. But I just feel like I need someone one on one who can relate to me.

Hi Nik,

Welcome and congrats on your surgery!! I was banded, too, by Dr. Snyder. My surgery was on June 5th. I am down 76 lbs so far. It's the best thing I've done for myself. BikiniBeachy(Lisa) who posts on here was banded the same day as you by Dr. Snyder if you look her up online here. I know those first few days are so overwhelming when you come home from surgery. You planned and planned so long for this, read up on all the pre op stuff, etc. then suddenly here you are banded. I think I read that manual you get in the preop nutrition class 10 times but still had to keep referring to it each day as I went through the post op phase. Can I eat this? Can I drink that? recording my ounces of Fluid, and Protein grams etc. But this too shall pass. You will feel stronger every day, and more confident in your banded lifestyle. If you have any questions, you can PM me on here or post here, I think I answered another post of you here where you introduced yourself. My name is Lori. Good luck to you, and congrats!!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
