donnape 0 Posted October 19, 2008 Hi all, any advice would be greatly recieved.. I was referred to Birmingham hospital for a gastic band, The surgeon asked me questions and took my bmi which is 39.6. But i have high blood pressure, because i wasnt on medication he referred me back to my GP to apply for funding from the PCT. I went back to my GP on friday and he wasnt happy with this decision he said i would NOT get funding from the PCT they normally wriggle out of it, none of his patients have ever got funding. Anyway he is now referring me to Walsall Hospital and sending me tomorrow to a different hospital for Pre Op tests these include (blood test, ECG and Chest X-Ray) he as also put me on Blood Pressure tablets. On all the things he as given me for the tests it says pre bartriac Surgery. My BP was 173/136 on friday. My GP also said he hates it when doctors just class it as another day at the office and dont look at patients circumstances or reasons behind surgery. So Do you guys think i stand a better chance this time or not. Thanks for reqading this !!
blondekerri79 0 Posted October 20, 2008 The best thing you can do is not pin all your hopes on it, I did the same with my GP, I have a prolapsed disc in my back and cannot have the next stage of treatment as my weight is too high and it won't be effective, after my consultant said I did not qualify my GP wrote to the PCT about my back, I pinned all my hopes on it, and I that time I was on a all time low with my weight so when it came back as No again I was devestated, so if you have the thought that they are gonna say No you're not building yourself up for a fall, and if they say Yes thats a bonus and a few grand saved! keving 0 Posted October 28, 2008 Hi hope you get it. My experiene was, with a BMI of 42 and high blood pressure, my GP referred me but they sent a letter back saying as I didn't have diabetese they would not consider me, so I went it alone and have never looked back. I really hope you gte a band on the NHS, but seriously doubt that any PCT will accept you without diabetese. good luck
Maincat 14 Posted October 29, 2008 I really hope you gte a band on the NHS, but seriously doubt that any PCT will accept you without diabetese. good luck Mine was no problem. BMI 41.2, no diabetic condition. Band on NHS. We all know it's a lottery. Some PCTs will do it, some won't. I was lucky. The ones that don't offer the operation after you meet the requirements need exposing. They think they're saving money, but in the long run they aren't.
