Dizzy on Pre-Op Diet

Recommended Posts

I am on day 5 of the pre-op diet and I am really dizzy and weak. I have been following it exactly like the doctor/dietitian told me to and supplement with string cheese, etc if i am too hungry. I am about to pass out - why am I not feeling better? I am drinking well over the 64 ounces of Water.< /p>

hi; I had to be on liquids for 2 weeks pre op and almost lost my mind and my Cookies (pun intended)! I spoke with a bariatric nurse at the Cleve Clinic where I had my band put in and she said you can have creamed Soups and yogurt. It isn't easy but it will pay off in the end because it gives you a mind set about a new way of eating. Keep up the good work, you will be happy you did.

hello gracie78, i'm right with you on the liquid diet and being dizzy. i'm on week 2 of the diet and although it was ruff from day 1 it does get better as it go along. I'm on Optifast and it came with a sheet of all the side affects.

--you should chew 5 sticks of gum a day (extra)

--massage your gums

--get up from sitting or laying positions slowly

--your skin will be extra dry

-- hair brittle and may shed

-- and last but not least you will have headaches or get dizzy.

it's from your body not having the carbs, sugar, etc that it use to have and at the amounts it use to have. i felt as if my body was in shock day 1-5.

good luck and hang in there:thumbup:

Is this diet supposed to cause excessive thirst?

I have been on this almost a week and almost passed out at Target yesterday. I am down 7 lbs.

not sure i think it's going to effect everyone differently, but it is a thread on here some where that is titled "passing out on liquid diet" or something like that, where someone else has suffered that also. if you feel it's not right please call your dr. i know it kind of make you feel better when you know the same thing has happen to someone else.

i'm not sure how much i have lost, i'm tooo afraid to look..lol but i know it's something because my clothes have a little more room. i also started going back to the gym to make sure i lose something.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
