The only thing that helps any, is walking... I had gas pains for almost a month after surgery. My husband would rub my back, but it only help for that moment. He couldn't and wouldn't do it for very long. Also, I used the chew-able Mylanta gas tablets. They helped pass it alittle bit. Just don't try to hold on to it. The only way to loose it, is to let the gas run it's course.

if you haven't gone poop, you need to start working on that... my doctor said that having a BM would help decrease the pain... make sure you take what he/she reccommends if you need help... don't get in my situation and not be able to go for almost 10 days and be in major pain... walk walk walk and drink plenty of Water (whether you need assistance with the BM or not)...

Best of luck to you sweetie

Signed,

Been there

Hi. I've been there too. I did find some relief with the extra strength Gas-X strips. A heating pad on my shoulder helped (just be careful not to put it right on your incisions), peppermint tea, and walking. I also noticed that it hurt worse when I sipped on something very cold. It was better for me to drink liquids that were room temperature or warm beverages. I could not have sf popsicles for about a week - it hurt when I ate them. Not sure if any of these will help. It does go away - mine was pretty bad for the first week, and by about 10 days post-op, it was almost all gone. Good luck to you and congratulations on your new band!! Take care!! Becky

I took those gasX strips and they seemed to help a little.. if nothing else, they helped mentally.. lol

What i did notice, that worked for me, was taking deep breaths. Slow in and slow out. I think it helped open up my lungs and helped me relax a little which got the gas moving along.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
