Now I am reading Bitter chocolate by Carol Off, its a bit heavier in topic, but I think its going to affect me for the rest of my life (Fair Trade chocolate all the way!).

I too read this one; I have since shared it with many of my choco-holic friends. If only 1 or 2 change their buying behaviors, it will be a start.

For relaxation I read well written complex mysteries. Fav authors (of the moment): Peter Robinson; Ian Rankin; Elizabeth George; Henning Mankel; Reginald Hill; Stephen Booth; PD James...and so on.

I am an avid reader and writer so I just love that somebody posted this thread! =) I read many different types of books but right now have been reading mostly historical romance, fantasy, and urban fantasy. Here are the books I've read and enjoyed most recently or have on my shelf to read soon:

Kelley Armstrong's Personal Demon

Rachel Caine's Gale Force

Carrie Vaughn's Kitty and the Silver Bullet

Anton Strout's Dead to Me

Karen Chance's Midnight's Daughter

Mark del Franco's Unshapely Things

Devon Monk's Magic to the Bone

Patricia C. Wrede's Dealing with Dragons

I absolutely love Kim Harrison's books, C.E. Murphy's books, loved the first 8 Anita Blake books and still enjoy the Merry Gentry series, and also loved Twilight, though I haven't read the other books yet. I liked the first few Terry Goodkind books but not so much the others. Haven't read the last few though my husband still enjoys them.

Nice to see other book lovers around here! =)

Great post - it is fun to see what other people enjoy reading. I like a variety of books as well - although you can't tell from my current book reads:

- Stephen King's Lisey (I usually buy a hard copy of each book he releases but wait until they are on the clearance table!)

- Will to Murder - A true story about the murders at Glensheen mansion in Duluth in the 70s. This is a re-read. My husband and I love Duluth and tour Glensheen every time we are there.

Just finished a Dean Koontz book....

I'm really not as psycho as this post makes me sound. I also like Sandra Brown, Jackie Collins, etc.

Raising Cain AND The Pressured Child by Michael Thompson (non-fiction)

The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian by Sherman Alexie

The Zombie Survival Guided by Max Brooks

The Birthday of the World by Ursula LeGuinn (short stories)

On of my students recommended Twilight and I will be reading that soon! As soon as a copy is available at the library!

I am always in the middle of a bunch of books, but I get bored easily so I read a few at a time. I have to read what suits my mood.

HAHA I have the Zombie Survival Guide waiting for me when I have time at home.. My DH said I gotta get up to date in case they decide to take over!

Terry Goodkind-- I have 2 books left in the series of 12.... OMG. I haven't gone and bought them yet because I need to ration because I only have 2 books left and I raced thru the first 10. I was up all night a couple of times... And had to order the next books from the book store ahead of time because I knew I couldn't wait.

It is kind of like Harry Potter meets Lord of the Rings meets a seriously adult content commentary on social/political/racial issues with magic/wizards etc...... SO GOOD.

And let me tell you-- I was an English lit major in college and really love 17th-18th century English literature (ie- Charles Dickens, Jane Austen, etc). This serious is WAY out of my usual reading. Love it.

Terry Goodkind is a very descriptive. He pulls you right in and paints the complete picture of everything around you. Terry is an incredible writer. I have read the complete series and now am watching Legend of the Seeker on tv every week. It is Wizards First Rule written out into 26 stand alone one hour segments (On Sunday nights before Desperate Housewives!). Filmed in New Zealand same as Zena.

I am currently reading Gilbert Morris' "The Mermaid in the Basement" (London 1857). I like reading about the Victorian era and mysteries as well as Sci Fi (even though Terry Goodkind does not think of his series as Sci Fi). Helps pass the time on the elliptical trainer.

I just finished Sherrilyn Kennon's "Acheron" part of her Dark Hunter books. Greek and Atlantian gods with demons and Appolites/Daimons.

The Anita Blake novels are super great about a vampire hunter and I also enjoyed her Merry books about the fey. They can get pretty racey. But then I like that kinda thing. LOL. Laurell K. Hamilton

I am not currently reading anything because I have been busy with school and my son's school... but i wanted to put in a word :) Has anyone read Janet Evanovich??? the stephanie plus series she writes is hilarious.. SO FUNNY.. if you ever get bored pick up Book 1.. It is called One for the Money and you will probably find yourself addicted..

Hope everyone is doing well..

Janet Evanovich is my all-time Favorite!!! I love her humor.

twilight is on my list ...you should try mary janice davidson...undead and unwed is so funny I almost peed my pants at work...really...

I've been wanting to try that book.

I really love books in a series, especially mysteries with some romance.

My faves right now are the Women's Murder Club series by James Patterson (just discovered these this past summer!), Hannah Swensen series by Joanna Fluke (cookie murder mysteries with recipes, not good for a recent bandit! LOL).

I'm hoping to start the Twilight series soon... is it gory? I don't like gory...

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
