I just got a fill yesterday and the surgeon told me that my port is moving around and has likely become detached from my abdominal wall. He didn't seem very concerned about it and said it will need to be fixed if he can't access it in the future.

I'm not freaking out about it, but I'm wondering if I should go ahead and have him fix it before any problems arise. Any experience in this area?

Mine is tilted, and I jokingly said to my surgeon "so no emergency surgery to resposition it, right?" and he NOT joking said "no, not yet. We'll keep an eye on it" I think they do that sometimes....move around, break free, go off on their own. Since he told me that I started "feeling" it in there all the time and just made myself quit thinking about it; now it's much better since I mostly just put it out of my mind! :tongue_smilie:

I am going to need a low profile port someday, anyway; but would rather not have him go back in again so soon!

I had to have mine repositioned. One side had torn off the muscle and flipped around. When he went back in he put a lot of stitches and I could feel it was a lot tighter. The surgery was just about the same as the first one. With the same restrictions. I haven't had a fill since, so he won't know if it is positioned right until the end of this month when I go in for another fill. We don't know what caused it, I was the first he had to do this to. I was when I was about 11 weeks out.

My port is tilted too. And my surgeon said about the same thing - that we'll watch it and it will probably have to be fixed in the future. Sometimes I have a sensation that it is pulling at the remaining stitches; nothing painful, really, just a momentary slight pinprick. I go back for my second fill on the 27th, so I guess we'll see then if it has moved any more.

There is a surgeon that doesn't even sew the port into place. I didn't misunderstand, I kept asking him thinking I misunderstood. He said that they have had better luck with it not flipping, tilting, causing pain, etc if they leave it as is when they do the band placement. He said the body will form scar tissue that will hold it in place just fine.

Not sure how I feel about that. It's an interesting concept.

My port flipped and I had to have surgery to correct it. Sometimes they can just tilt and they might be able to still access it. However, in a case of a full flip, the problem is that you can't get fills, which stalls your progress. I found out 8 weeks after my surgery that my port flipped when they couldn't access my port. I went in for revision surgery and it was a much easier recovery than the 1st surgery.

Hi ,

I had my port replaced today !! It had tilted the wrong way . So I got a new low profile port and small extra tubing (down from 3cc down to 2.5.)

Swollen from surgery , feels like I am starting over. Happy , tight band surgery diet started all over again.

I have 42.5 pounds left to goal of 180.

Good Luck with port .

Can you feel it? Yesterday when swimming I had a lot of pain in my port area... I was a bit worried that something happened.

Yes , you can feel it! It feels sore and tender and sticks out larger than normal. You doctor can tell you for sure :Dancing_biggrin:

I hope your port is fine because going through this surgery is just like the first time. All the pain and liquid diets. Just not so gassy!

I had no idea mine had flipped, until I went for a 3rd fill. The only thing I can think that I did was right after Hurricane Ike, I went to help our local grocer clean the mud out of his store like a lot of other people here that were fortunate enough not to get flooded. When I bent down to clean the bottom shelf, I felt a pain in the port area. I did not think it was enough to tear the port loose, but that is the only time I ever felt a pain like that. The dr doesn't even know, but I will take responsibility this time, but I have been extra careful since the 2nd surgery. If it happens again maybe the muscle is just not strong enough to hold. If that is the case, I will talk to him about the sleeve.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
