I've been losing weight as well without a fill in... I believe that the band still causes some restriction... I don't know about you, but I am still trying to eat a lot of protien, stay away from carbs and am exercising... I'm down about 30 lbs!! Woooohooo!! :smile2:

I had the best weight loss of my whole journey pre fill just after surgery. In the 3 months between surgery and my first fill I lost about 40lb. I had super restriction for ages, and I was very compliant with the stages of the diet, after that initial weight loss though, I was a slow and steady loser in the range of about 1lb a week.

Very common, even without any fill being given at surgery. People have reached goal without fills. For some, the band itself gives restriction. For others, swelling from surgery acts like a fill. For others, the knowledge that the band is there is enough to keep them on track, even without a fill. And the possibilities go on...

I totally agree about the "just knowing its there "part...the Dr said my port was a little deeper than usual and all I had to do was see that needle in plastic layin on that table....just in case..and I was like...ummmm...Im doin ok so far.....lol...but he did also say that there was a bit of a prefill when he installed it...so Im crossin my fingers this does the job for quite some time....LOL...

Before I had my surgery, I met a woman who had the surgery a year ago and never went back to her doctor, and never had a fill. She had lost 75 lbs, but had maybe another 30 to go.

However, she said she was happy at her current weight and didn't want a fill. I should think she would have wanted at least a check up, but she never went back to the surgeon at all.

Not what I would do, but if you don't need a fill, and you are losing at a good rate, don't get the fill until you need it.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
