I went to my primary care DR. on Monday and was diagnosed with asthma. While I was there he inquired how I was feeling after my surgery, and I told him good other than feeling very run down and that I wasn't sure if it was because of the lack of nutritious food that I had been on or if it was the illness and he suggested a B12 shot. OMG....that stuff has done wonders for my energy level. Has anyone else ever had one or know anything about them?

They use B12 shots once a month for pernicious anemia. I hope he did a blood test and checked your B12 level before giving you a shot to see if you were truly low. I have never heard of them giving them for energy. I would wonder what the real underlying cause of your fatigue and check everything out from anemia to heart disease.

I had complete blood work done just prior to my surgery...about a month and half ago. I am perfectly healthy, just a little under fed right now. I have been going to this Dr. for 10 years and trust him completely so if he considered it safe for me then I am good with it....especially since I feel so much better after receiving it.

Glad to hear you were checked out really good before your surgery. I am the type to always error on the side of caution... I have been a cardiac nurse for 22 years and fatigue is the number one symptom overlooked by women and their doctors for an indicator of heart disease. Sorry, it just a gut reaction when I hear it.

Glad you feel better, I looked on the MayoClinic website, it doesn't look like there have been any official trials done on B12 for energy boosting specifically, just with different types of anemias. If its safe and helps that's great!

I am sort of the same as you when it comes to my health....other than being obese that is, which I have now done something about as well. I research things a great deal and sometimes might be a tad hypochondriacal thanks to the lovely internet...LOL. But the strange thing is...I was a totally healthy fat girl and other than being hard to lug around 110 extra pounds, I felt great. I'm sure my health would have eventually begun to decline but hopefully the lapband will make me even healthier. In fact, tonight I took my blood pressure with my mom's new high tech bllod pressure monitor and it was 106/65. I don't think I've ever seen it that low.....uh oh....something else for me to obsess about now.....LOL. Thanks for your reply!!

My doctor also gives B12 shots to help boast energy. I haven't had one yet because I decided to try the B12 nasal spray and I don't think I am getting enough of that in my system to do anything. So I plan on getting a shot at my appointment next week. When I had my last blood work done he said my B12 was probably around the same as a person who hadn't had surgery done. But he likes his patients to have a higher level. I'm sure it has something to do with not getting all the energy needed for your body just from food. A lot of patients at the hospital have said great things about the shots and love them. I know I could use some more energy so I'm all for it! :tongue_smilie:

Back in the 80's I went to a Doctor who gave me bi-weekly injections of B12/B6 as a part of a weight loss regimine and I can tell you that my energy level went through the roof during that time. I don't know if it was a placebo effect or what, but but it worked on me. My LB doctor does not offer them and if he did, he'd probably want $500.00 per shot! :tongue_smilie:

u know i went to the Vitamin Shoppe and i got the liquid form of b-12 and it says that it does support energy production. It does work and it also helps to boost your metabolosim to assist in fat loss google is my best friend when it comes to researching things... how it was put to me is when u have more energy u move around more, and when u move around more u will burn more calories which will result in weight loss... see how they connect... but it works for me..

My PC doctor suggested B12 shots to me today weekly or Bi-weekly he also ordered blood work first so I have to wait on that first to see how much and how often.I have also heard B12 with Lipid tropics aka fat burners aid in weight loss.

I would be interested in B12 shots. My doctor has me taking B12 under the tongue. But I bet the shots work much quicker.

I had B12 shots in the early 70's after having mono. The energy was great, but they really increased my appetite. The Dr. told me that was a common side effect, but if they are given for weight loss..........

I am also low on B12. I take the sublingual form of B12 1000mcg per day. I have been doing this for years and it works for me. I hear the shot are painful and probably expensive. I buy these at Walmart. They are inexpensive.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
