Time between Consult and Sugery

Recommended Posts

hun it can get confusing

but medicare do not contribute to private hospital fee's

in any way at all

the stay in the private hospital and the use of the theatre is where the bulk of the cost comes from

medicare only contribute to item numbers of the surgery

eg: surgeon, anaethetist, the actual band, blood tests, xrays, barium meal after the op and the like

ofcourse if you or your partner have superanuation then it is possible to access the funds that way...a lot of people chose to do that

lol no partner for me  but I do have super and now I'm thinking that might be my option, cause I don't have the money and I really don't wanna get a loan to do it. I'll have to find out how I can get my super to pay, as I think it's my only option.

I'm turning 30 next year and really wanted to be different by then, at the moment I just feel shit and wish I had of thought about this ages ago... and if I do use my super I might just loose my health insurance!

I don't wanna use my Super but really it ain't gonna be any good to me if I'm dead!! Yes that is being a little dramatic but hey, I'm feeling a little dramatic at the moment!

Thanks for your advice etc! I've just gotta work out how to get get my super now

No i dont think ur being dramatic hun

cause it isnt any use to you when you die

now if you go over to the yahoo lapband msg board

you will find a thread all about APRA

the letter from your GP and surgeon must be worded in a specific way for them to release the money

so i suggest you go over and have a look it will be a good thread for you to read to get all the info you need

I would have done that too if i had the super

but as i didnt i had to go the private health route

thanks so much! I"ve got the link so if you want to delete it, then that is cool... I apologise if we broke rules here too!

BTW looks like you've done extremely well with your journey, congrats! You give me a lot of belief that I can do it too.

I'm going to add my two cents worth and agree that you will find your insurance won't cover you without the 12 month waiting period. Don't give up though - you can either choose to pay now and jump in, or wait out the time (1 year isn't really that long in the grand scheme of things). Either way, don't lose the insurance as it will cover any possible complications arising and they can be almost as expensive as the initial surgery.

Personally, I couldn't wait and I spent the money - it was worth every single penny of it too! I was glad I took out the insurance though, because I did need a minor corrective op a couple of weeks back and I really couldn't afford that one, but insurance covered it.

Whichever way you go, hang in there and do it! You won't believe how much it will change your life and how good you will feel twelve months afterwards. I think that for most of us, by the time we get to considering surgery as our last resort, we have given up hope in ever really finding a solution to our weight problems. It is hard to imagine that there really is something out there that will work and not be just another failure to add to the list. Let me give you the reassurance that, if you work with the band and let the band work for you, it DOES work! I have never been happier...

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
