Well gadget that was so civil, it makes me want to respond to you....

I agree, I love it when you all get along. I respect the views of all of you: Watcher, BJean, Green, Gadget, Beth, etc...

It is disheartening when the tone moves from attacking the topic to attacking the person. And as far as I'm concerned using demeaning or derogatory terms to refer to a whole group of people, democrat, republican or otherwise is just a poorly vieled way of attacking the individual, intentionally or not. I know we all have strong feeling on different issues and most of us have been guilty of this at one time or the other, but when we negatively label one group or another we make it harder for the message we are trying to convey to be heard, even by those that were not our intended "victims".

...That's not my whole story, just part of it. Care to ask anymore questions?

Thankyou so much for sharing. I wrote a novel/bio to Watcher as well when I sent my PM's in the hopes it would help him understand where I was coming from and to minimize the chance of him mis interpreting the intent of my PM. It can be so hard to read a post the way the writer intended it when you can't hear the tone of their voice or see the expressions on their face and hand gestures.

A bit off topic here but I thought I would share something I started to put in a PM to someone on this thread.

I'm a bit of a politcal mix myself. I consider myself a "liberal" republican that will be voting for McCain solely because I see him as a lesser of two political evils.

But as I told Watcher in a PM I have a secret desire for Obama to blow McCain out of the Water and win by a landslide then, that he is somehow able to become the JFK and Nelson mandela of our time. JFK in that I'd love to see him push the "ask not what your country can do... for yourself, your baby mama, child, your neighbor, etc, and the Nelson Mandela in that I hope his mixed heritage and eloquent speaking abilities can somehow be used to help heal this nations ratial wounds as Mandela tried to do with his Truth and Reconcilliation Trials.

If I really thought he had a chance at succeeding in either of those areas I'd vote for him despite my differences in views on his other democratic party policy agendas. After all if my democratic friends/relatives could survive 8 years of a Republican White House (with thier favorite republican to hate, Bush) I'm sure I can manage 4-8 of a Democrat controlled White House.

But, sadly I'm afraid he is not our country's Messiah and will be no better than any other power hungry and ultimately corrupted politician, so I just can't bring myself to break my party allegiance and vote for him, based soley on my racially motivated dreams.

Bjean - you rock!

Republicans have been trying to convince americans that Dems cannot not be of faith, love their county and support the military. Watching Obama has been a wake up to the country that he is all that and a bag of chips too. I cannot wait to cast my vote for Senator Obama. I have been voting for 32 years, have not missed an election. I am more enthusiastic about this vote than any before!

Without trying to sound too paranoid. I've even wondered if it wouldn't be a good idea to keep a small overnight bag packed in the car at all times in case we decide it's best to get ourselves and our 5 year old son out of town fast.

And I keep thinking I ought to figure out just where I put the ammo and clip to the semi-auto rifle my dad gave me a few years back. I seperated the clips, ammo and gun from each other after my son was born for safety reasons but have since forgotton where the ammo went.

OK now its official. I've gone round the bend. But still it proves my point. If a simple housewife/bookkeeper is considering arming herself what are the rest of the masses going to do?

There doesn't seem to be any good way out of this. If he gets assasinated we are in deep deep *crud* and if he loses it won't be pretty eigther as so many will cry foul in the belief there is no way he could have lost with out it being rigged and we could still end up with Rodney King style riots.

Sadly, you're not alone. Having lived in LA during the Rodney King riots, and finding all of my 20-something friends holed up in my house for a few days because I was the only one who had guns, my mind has gone often to where our family will be safest on election night.

I posted this on another thread but it bears repeating.

I just got a call from a friend of mine who lives in Ohio, where they have early voting. A woman he knows went to the courthouse to vote and was told, "Sorry, ma'am, you've already voted." She had not. Someone voted in her place. When she complained, they handed her a provisional ballot and told her that if the vote were tied, they'd count her provisional ballot.

This is scary stuff.

You say you lean to the right of the Republcans. I believe that the extreme right of the Republican party has gone off the deep end. They do not seem to practice the teachings of the Lord and yet they claim to be good patriotic Christians. Well I'm not accusing you of having hate in your heart by any means, but I do believe that some of the most extreme right wing in this country would like nothing better than to assassinate a man like Senator Obama. Which is what this thread is about.

I think the lunatic fringe on both sides would be happy to see the other side's leader assassinated. To attribute fringe lunacy to Republicans only is, well, lunacy.

When I say I'm to the right of the Republicans, I consider myself a Classical Liberal or a Libertarian. I align myself with the Founding Fathers and their positions on freedom and taxes. There is nothing -- nothing whatsoever -- "hateful" or "anti-Christian" about that.

Beth you're right, I am not very thick skinned when it comes to the way the Republicans have chosen to run their race and instead of telling the truth about what their political agenda really is, they attack, attack, attack.

I do not have a quarrel with anyone exposing the truth that Senator Obama knows and has Bill Ayers as a friend. What you don't get is that the tone and manner in which the Republicans have characterized that friendship is way, way, way out of line!

You don't hear the Democrats making outlandish charges about McCain's relationships with right wing extremists who have been responsible for criminal felonies committed in this country. And now McCain is trying to distance himself from George W. Bush - as if that were true. They are both from the same party and they share a whole lot of the same agenda. To behave as if he has a completely different agenda in the areas that are important to this country right now, is not correct.

Do you know about McCain's actual military service? Or is what you know pretty much limited to the part about him having been a tortured POW? Have you ever questioned the real reason behind his not leaving the POW camp when he was offered the chance? Why wouldn't a good soldier want to get back into battle to try to save his fellow fliers? Do you know McCain's academic record? Do you know how many planes that he's been in that have crashed? When I hear him continuing to refer to himself as a maverick, I think of a very old Tom Cruise in Top Gun. Remember Maverick's plane crash? Remember why they called him Maverick? Do you know how he met his wife and how he divorced his other wife?

The reason you don't hear Obama slandering McCain personally is because Obama is the better man with a much more honest campaign focused on the issues and what he proposes. He points out when McCain has not told the truth when he's on the podium, but he doesn't accuse McCain of hanging out with felons in an effort to make us all believe that McCain's a bad person (who would commit a felon) because he hangs with felons.

And he doesn't accuse McCain of being too old (as opposed to McCain's claim that Obama is too inexperienced.) Not only does Senator Obama refuse to use age discrimination in this election, he also has not brought up the fact that McCain has had 4 episodes of cancer - a lethal form of cancer. Even though some doctors have suggested that Americans should have knowledge of the results of McCain's latest cancer test.

So to answer your charge, yes I can understand why, if you've bought into the outlandish accusations that Republicans have used in this campaign, you'd like to paint me with the brush of ignorance, but I am not ignorant. I am informed. On both sides of the ticket.

Btw, to set the record straight, asking the wealthiest percent of people and corporations to pay the same amount of taxes that they paid before Bush gave them huge tax breaks, is not socialistic. Paying taxes is not socialism. Fairness does not equate to socialism, no matter how loud and long the Republicans say it.

What Senator Obama proposes has to do with fairness. I wish McCain would be more open and honest about what his plans are. I promise you, what he proposes has nothing to do with fairness. It has everything to do with a small percentage of the people in America and it has to do with greed. Not taxation without representation - pure and simple greed.

And Ghost, your outline of what you'd like to see Obama do as president is exactly what I expect him to do and that is why I do not hesitate to vote for him. We certainly know what we'll be getting with McCain and even if Obama is unable to do everything you suggested, we'll still be better off as a country than if McCain were president.

Uh, BJean, what race are you watching?? Only the republicans attack? I thought Obama was the agent for change, yet he has done no better than anybody else on that front. The liberals have honed the act of attack to a fine art. They've been doing it longer, and they certainly have been doing it better.

I don't know, I could attempt to respond to so much more, but you are an apparent Obama zombie. I don't mean this in an ugly way towards you -- it's just that this very scary fake has really got otherwise intelligent people saying and doing very stupid things.

Bjean an Obama Zombie?

I thought she had a very reasoned response. She keeps taking you righties on with intelligent arguments and all you can say is she is an Obama Zombie. BethfromVA you are in denial about seeing both sides and not liking either. You are hook line and sinker for the right.

Clusk, you really have comprehension issues.

I AM for the right -- the right that used to be. I am NOT walking in lock step behind McCAIN. I never said I wasn't a conservative. What I've been implying is that McCAIN is not a conservative.

Actually, when I was thinking of Obama zombies, you came more to mind. :w00t:

yea well the right lost their way a long time ago and its more that just McCain palin and bush that has decimated the republican party... the fact of the matter is that this race is already over and for good reason and believe me once Bush is impeached the Libertarians with be the new Conservative party in this country... and that's a lil scary in itself.

and yea i know thats a little extreme

but you know what

@#%$ em if they can't take a joke!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
