I was banded 3 days ago and I'm still feeling a lot of pain where they stiched my port to muscle. So much pain, that it hurts to get up every 2 hours and walk. I also have gas, and I'm sure that is amplifying the pain. I've been using ice and taking gas-x, but I wonder if any of you out there experienced something similar.

Thanks!

Sarah

Hello. I have been there, done that. My port area hurt really bad for about 3 weeks!!! It does get better. Hang in there. I was convinced that I had pulled a stitch or something. I found that putting gentle pressure on it helped with the pain. I kept my hand pressed on it when I walked for about two weeks. I looked like a pregnant woman walking around with my hand on my swollen belly! I also pressed on it when I did anything that caused me to really use my stomach muscles, like getting in and out of my car.

hi Sarah congrats!

I was banded one week ago today, I can't believe how time flies. My port site still hurts today, and I have my boyfriend help me up from bed. Getting up from a laying position requires a lot of abdominal strength, and someone just stitched something into your ab wall's muscles! I just wanted to let you know it's normal for three days, I am still feeling port pain here today 7 days later. It's getting better, but it actually changed from a sharp pain to a dull bruise pain after about 5 days for me. It's like how a bruise develops a few days after you bump into something. Just wanted to let you know it's not strange at all!

oh man I experienced that!! It hurt for me to breath for the 1st week! Just try to relax as much as possible....and take very short walks...maybe around the living room and that's it. Be easy on yourself, that pain will go away. Good luck!

Hang in there, I had that pain for about 3 weeks.

Did your doctor prescribe you anti inflamatorys? This will bring down the swelling.

My post op instructions were to put heat on the Port site. Not only did it decrease discomfort, the bruising was gone. I am a week behind my husband and my bruising is much better than his. Opps, sent on my husbands account!

Hang in there!!! I was banded on 10/08 and the port pain has been the hardest part of healing. It does get better over time though. I truly agree that getting up and down from sitting or lying positions is the worst. Having help, though does take some of the pressure off your muscles. My husband has become a great pull bar.:thumbup: Just remember the end results!!!!:smile2:

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
