I've been tyring out various brands and flavors of Protein powder and have some questions...

1. What is the difference between whey and soy Protein? Is one better for bandsters?

2. Which matters more when choosing a protein, grams of carbs or sugar?

3. How do you know which is "bad" (concentrate) and "good" (isolate) protein? What is the difference between the two?

Hey there. I got some info from the internet. For me, whey Protein has a much better taste than soy and its easier to digest and absorb and it doesn't sit in your stomach as long as other Proteins. So, it's probably the wiser choice post-op. If you go to the Vitamin Shop or GNC, they have these whey Protein powders that you can make into shakes that taste VERY good. chocolate is the best in my opinion. Anyhoo, good luck and I hope this helps!

How does whey protein compare to soy protein?

A: Here are some of the differences between whey protein and soy protein.

  • Whey protein is a nutritionally complete protein. It contains bioactive ingredients, like immunoglobulins and lactoferrin, that help support the immune system.
  • Athletes prefer whey protein to soy protein due to its rich abundance of branched chain amino acids and its quick absorption rate. These are important to help repair and rebuild muscles after a workout or competitive event.
  • Whey protein has a fresh, neutral taste compared and will not change the taste of foods you add it to.
  • Whey protein does not contain isoflavones or any other components with potential hormonal effects.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
