Oh no! I just got an awful case of hiccups! (One felt really great cause it was my first burp since surgery) But it HURTS my incisions and I'm scared what it's doing to my newly healing band. I tried to hold my breath, no luck, and that usually works! Any tips? Just hug my pillow and hang on ? lol

Yep, I get hiccups a lot more now then I ever did before the band. It is painful now, but in a few days when your incisions aren't sore they won't bother you as much. Did Dr. S give you a bariatric bear? My Mom had RNY 4 years ago by him and she got a bariatric bear that is firm and is meant to be held against your tummy when you cough, sneeze (watch out for those, that is KILLING me now with my sore port area), or hiccup. I didn't get one and I thought I just got ripped off, now I am thinking he just doesn't use them anymore... Just use a pillow and don't worry, I asked the same exact question last week on OH.com and the other bandsters said it isn't doing anything to your band. I know if feels like it is, but it honestly isn't. Did you get the Realize band or Lap Band?

Since I was banded I get the hiccups on a daily basis. When I ususally get them it is a sign that I need to stop eating. I actually think it is a great thing! Good luck. Tamara

I am glad this came up. Everytime I am "pushing the limit" with my eating I get the hiccups. I had my band put in on 9/12 and have not had a fill.I didn't think I had any restriction...but maybe I do. I have never had chest pain or PB'd.

i saw on tv a girl had the hiccups, the doctor remembered if you put pressure on your forhead with your fingers between your eyebrows (little hight then the eyebrows) for a few minutes they will go away.

and hers did, i would use a couple finger from each hand and push right where your eyebrows start in the middle.

hope it helps!

Ok, I am going to give my hiccup trick. I used to be a bartender and one of my patrons gave me this trick years ago and it works EVERYTIME!

Take a spoon and bite down on it as far back as you can(this goes horizontally and bite with your molars..not too tight). While holding this pose, take a glass of Water and lean over a sink and take a couple of big drinks (if not you will spill it down the front of you. You may hiccup one time after that..but it should work. I swear by it!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
