It has been about 10 months now since my surgery. I have lost 70lbs and am very happy. My problem is is that I have started a bad habbit again of eating wrong. The good thing is that I eat but I don't eat like I used to. I can't. My biggest problem is that I am constantly on the road and can't eat meals like everyone else. My job demands constant driving and making sure I get to my destinations on time. I can't slow down. So I resort to eating kettle cooked chips and eating a meal at the end of the night. NOthing is healthy for road travelers on the go. It is so frustrating. Also I love to eat ice cream. It is the best thing in the world.

Question one about the band

after I eat a meal is ice cream considered a liquid? Reason why I ask is because of the rule about not drinking one hour and a half?

Also I find myself eating more food than usual and I don't feel full. Can my band get messed up if i am eating a lot of food and not feeling pain?

Last question:

Every week I get an episode where I have to throw up because I am still learning about certain foods that get stuck. eggs are the worst. I have had this problem for about 2 months. I am scared that my band is damaged or something. I guess I just need some insight. Can any one help?

First off, can I just say 70 lbs!? WOW! That is so awesome! Great job on losing that much!!

Ok, now I am only 2 weeks post-op, but I will try to help as best as I can. Maybe you can grab some Protein bars, beef jerkey, Protein shakes, chicken/meats in a can with mayo packets, low carb/soy Snacks from a health food store, or sugar free frozen yogurt/ice cream to take or keep with you in a cooler? I know it isn't a nice home cooked meal, but at least you could make sure you were getting in your Protein and good calories for the day. Then when you are at home (on your days off or whatever) make sure you are eating exactly what you need to be eating as well as getting the excercise you need too. If you HAVE to have ice cream, it is ok occasionally. Otherwise if you eat it all the time, it is empty calories. I know it is hard and this happens to everyone at some point, just try as best as you can and you will be successful.

As far as your band goes, if you are really concerned with it slipping, I would go see your surgeon. To stop throwing up, either eat slower and chew more, or don't eat that type of food (your band doesn't agree with it).

Don't forget to take your daily Vitamins too!

I hope I have been somewhat helpful to you and wish you nothing but the best. Good luck! :)

I see you have some of the same problems I do... I can ONLY eat eggs from the Omlette Shop (CHEESE OMLET...they are fluffy and go down easy).. I have found that the Cracker Barrel is a good place to eat on the go. You can always find some mushy vegs if you are having a bad day; I find the chicken dumplings filling and they go down easily, just be careful with the chunks of chicken. I have the PB 3-4 times a week, and I am constantly worried about damaging my band, but then I get back on track and I have no real abdominal pain........ trying to stay on top of things. Good luck! 70 pounds is a BIG ACCOMPLISHMENT! congrats!

C

ongratulations on your 70 pound loss, that is fantastic!!!

I see that you said you are on the road all day:car:, the best answer is to plan, plan, plan and then plan some more. Pack your Breakfast and lunch and Snacks in a cooler and keep it with you. Invest in a Thermos brand container to keep something hot if that is what you pack like a Soup or scrambled eggs.

Don't become a victim of not staying in charge!!! You are in control!!!!! Some choices from fast food would be:

Subway salad with turkey or chicken and lots of veggies

Wendy's chicken (no bun) with a side salad

Applebee's pick from their Weight Watcher menu

I use Calorie Counter, Diet Tracking, food Journal, Nutrition Facts at The Daily Plate to look up restaurant information before I go so I can plan ahead.

Hope this helps...Good luck to you!! Keep up the good work!!

Congratulation on the 70lbs that you have Lost! That's great. Be careful not to make excuses for yourself of why you can't eat right. You can, but it may just take a little more planning. Remember, excuses are what put alot of us in the position we were in before the lap band. With the band we committed to change. Which is not always easy or convenient. If you are not feeling full, when is the last time you had a fill? Maybe you just need an adjustment. YOU CAN DO IT!!!!! Just keep your eye on the prize! Good Luck

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
