i was banded on june 9th and have lost only 13 lbs. and gained back 4. i just got my second fill yesterday and cant stick with liquids because i am so hungry i feel sick. i feel like a failure everyone is constantly asking how much i lost and telling me success stories of their friends. my boyfriend is thin and eats whatever and whenever he wants and i am depressed and miserable to the point that it is controlling everything. i have no energy and just feel like i am on another horrible diet. have been trying to make the best choices and stay on track and exercise but i am frustrated beyond belief!

To me and everything I have read, your first fill may not of been tight enough. So this second fill should help with restriction and losing weight.

Are you eating correctly? You can "eat around" your band. Just because your boyfriend can eat anything doesn't mean you can. Most young men can eat anything. It sucks. It's life. No one said life was fair!

And the liquids are just for a few more days. Think positive! Drink some Protein, eat some sf Jello, and go nuts on some sf Popsicles if you are hungry. Find something you like. If the restriction is working you should get a full sensation.

It's mind hunger! Think positive!

I have been experiencing the same thing the last few weeks. Immediately after my banding in August 2008, I would get intense pain in my back (around where my kidneys are) that would indicate I had overeaten. Then, that stopped and instead I started getting like an ice cream headache feeling after eating. I went in for my second fill two weeks ago and since that fill, I have been continuously hungry and can eat basically my pre-op portions. I have even wondered if maybe they took Fluid out and didn't put more in... I don't know, but to have less restriction now after my second fill than I did 3 weeks ago is driving me potty. I'm just hoping I don't get any flack when I phone them up to schedule my next fill (can we do it tomorrow, please?!) since it's only been 2 weeks since my last one.

Don't get discouraged. I think that Jack had a great point about keeping a journal on your food and exercise. Remember, no matter who you are 3,500 calories equal 1lb. You have to burn more calories than you take in. Exercise is very important. Also, change the exercise up every once in a while. If you walk on the treadmill at a certain speed, increase it, or walk at an incline. Don't let your body get use to the same thing every day. Thank includes with food also. So if you just stick with it, it will pay off. I was a very slow loser but after 2 years I am under a 25 bmi. One good thing is that like alot of the others my skin had time to go back slowly and I need no plastic surgery to correct any hanging skin. So maybe that can be your incentive. Keep chugging along, I know you can do it. It is hard but well worht it.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
