Too Tight or Just Right

Recommended Posts

You know my 1st choice was not the lapband--it was the "sleeve." But my friend and this website changed my mind because the sleeve was relatively new and not a lot of data on it. Well, this website has a forum on "lapband to sleeve revision" which I have been reading. I know its costly but maybe insurance might cover it. Anyway, read that forum to get an idea on why those banders changed their thinking on the band and went with the sleeve. It mostly has to do with food getting stuck and not having the quality of life they desire. Its just a thought--an alternative.

Gloria,

If you go to the forum & scroll down to other weight loss surgeries. Look for VSG. I follow Susan's thread on the revision. Its good reading.

Hello. I was banded on 8/29/09 and have lost 22lbs. so far with one fill. I am nervous that my pouch has expanded due to the fact that I seem to be able to eat more that 1/2-1cup with no feeling of restriction. Do you think I may just need another fill (already scheduled in a few weeks). At some times, rare though, (chicken taco) I was only able to have a few bites. Very frustrating and confusing.

Sounds like I am in the same position as most of you. It's been nearly two years and I haven't lost anything post liquid diet.< /p>

Very often just 2 or 3 bites and my chest hurts so much I have to throw up.

Can't eat out with people and always have cold food.< /p>

The reason I haven't lost weight is because junk seems to be the only thing that goes down and I have to eat something. Salads - maybe two bites; sandwich 2 bits max., popcorn - probably 2 cups. What's up? Any thoughts?

Thank you so much for this post. I have not been filled since June and there are a few days each months that are impossible for me to eat and by the time I start to worry I can eat again. Well this month, I have had a problem for the last week and a half. Yesterday I could finally eat normally again and tonight I had an issue again. I realize I am not alone. I can't figure out for anything what make this happen on certain days but I need to analyze now exactly what I am eating when it happens. I will have to start to write things down. Again, these post are really so helpful, Thank you.

i am having the same problem. I haven't had a fill since June of this year and have plateau'd.... June was my 2-year anniversary and I am afraid I will not continue to lose. I haven't given up, will get another fill as soon as I can (self pay) but I have a bladder surgery coming up soon, so I am going to hold off on a fill until I recoup from that. Good luck and hope to see "less of you" in the near future! God Bless!

I can also gulp Water...which I heard I shouldn't be able to do since I'm banded. I think it's time for a fill. What do you think?

I could gulp until I hit 8.5 cc in a 10 cc band. Then I could barely sip! I had .25 cc taken out last week, as I had lost 13 pounds in 2 1/2 weeks! Now, I still cant gulp, but can get a small drink down every 5 minutes...

Cher, have been looking all evening for just this information. Had the band placed in June, 2010 and am now down 40 pounds or so.. but since my last fill (puts me between 5-6 in a 10 band)over 6 week ago, I have had much more regurgitation, pain while eating, sometimes can eat only a few bites, sometimes a little more. Weight loss is good but am worried about being too tight vs. not eating the right things, eating too quickly or too large bites. Mornings are tight for me too. I am never hungry, and I like that but worry about nutrition and am starting to resort to Protein smoothies. I have finally overcome the drinking while eating which also caused me to regurgitate. I eat the crap out of sugar free popcycles and wonder why they don't just add protein to them. I have even been wondering if my allergies may be causing me to secrete more mucous causing blockages in the stoma...I have been trying to figure all this out myself but prob. need to go back to my aftercare center for eval. The pain when eating some things can generally be relieved by throwing up what I just ate. Any tips, is there a list of foods I should definitely not be trying to eat???Also, I am taking a childrens Gummy multivit. and am wondering if I need to be taking more than the recommended dose for chidren. Help :(

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
