Waving bye bye

I popped in here a couple weeks ago...having problems with this procedure.

I am so happy for everyone as I briefly looked through the threads and saw all the success. I'm jealous!!!

I've been through 3 doctors that have never gotten a fill right & don't care. One doctor only had an opening every 3 months and when my day came, she called in sick. Put on a waiting list with 18 other people and next appt was in 3 more months.

I threw in the towel and told them I'll be back to have it removed and they WILL take it out. They said ok.

Disappointed but wasn't meant to be.

Best of luck to all before I sign off!

Keep up the good work!

Lori :D

I'm so sorry it didn't work out for you. :D

Are you absolutely sure you're ready to quit? Maybe one more call or interview of a doctor will help you find the right doctor/fill center.

Not everyone is successful with the band. Not sure if lack of getting an appointment for a fill was ever a common complaint here but I had mine out over 2 weeks ago and have felt much better ever since. It just wasn't the right procedure for moi! Good luck to you whatever you decide, Nancy.:D

Wow, I'm sorry you had so many problems with fills! Where are you in Southern California? I am in the Los Angeles area and am seeing Dr. Milton Owens at Coastal Center for Obesity. He's been doing bariatric surgery since 1987, Lap Band since 2001. He seems very open to giving the right care, and my PCP highly recommends him. Just a thought...

Sorry for your unfortunate situation. I love my band and fortunately my doc is as dedicated to the aftercare as he was to the surgery; I know the band is the right solution for me and can't imagine going this far just to have it removed. You must be frustrated beyond words. Good luck to you!

Hey Lori!

Im so sorry to hear your frustration. I had some similar issues. I was banded 6/30/08 and had the most awful time getting my doc to even call me back to make an appointment for a fill. I finally got an appointment for a fill, it was 10/14/08. Up until that date I was really back and forth feeling frustrated and discouraged and then optimistic and hopeful. I DID finally get my first fill on 10/14/08 and I have to say I couldn't be happier. I actually have some restriction, I couldn't eat much of anything at all. I took the opportunity to ask as many questions of my doc as I could while I had him there. I actually tried to switch docs when I couldn't get an appointment for so long, that was unsuccessful. I also refused to leave the office without them setting my next appointment. If you really feel you have to give up I wish you so much luck and many blessings, if you decide to give it one more try, I wish you all the success in the world!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
