Looking for particulars

HI,

I am new here, I posted an intro with a calling on anyone who might have had an organ transplant and then went on to be banded, please tell me your story. I had a liver transplant 15 years ago and have just received a referral to a bariatric surgeon, I don't know if he will consider it or not. Since I take medication that I can't live with out I was wondering about taking pills, certainly there must be someone out there that must take some type of life-saving medication - that they can't live without. Do you take pills? Has any one had any type of abdominal surgery prior to being banded where adhesions from the first surgery may have had an impact on your banding?

Since I ZERO responses on the intro board someone suggested that I try here. THANKS MAC MADAME for lookin' out for the newbie.

I do not have experience with a transplant or life saving medication. However can you crush your pills or do any of them come in liquid form?

My Internist (NOT a surgeon, didn't place my band) was telling me none of his band patients have a problem swallowing pills, but I can see where some really big ones could be problematic.

There's also and issue if you have sufficient restriction and have to take any with meals, that they won't be processed on time.

I think while waiting to see if your rather unique situation is addressed here, it would be good for you to just go to a seminar and ask the surgeon. Regardless of what anyone here says, you're going to have to find a surgeon who feels s/he can work with you and help you, anyway.

So far I've taken all my pills easily but have no restriction to speak of.

Most of the transplant meds can be crushed or come in a liquid form. You can contact your pharmacy and ask them if your meds can be crushed or made liquid. I know that some of those pills are horse pills and they won't make it through the band. Good luck!!

Hey new filter, I haven't had a transplant yet but the reason I am getting this surgery is because I may need a lung transplant in the next 5-10 years. If you need to talk to or have any questions asked feel free to email me on here.

Sarah,

I have know many lung transplant patients, that do well. You are a young woman and that is a plus. Get as healthy as you possibly can before your transplant, loosing weight is a giant plus (no pun intended), you are wise. The best advice I can give you is REMAIN POSITIVE EVENTHOUGH IT CAN GET VERY HARD.

I am still waiting to hear from Kaiser here in No. Cal. about the band for me, but I have followed up and I am on a list for call back from the surgery dept. they have many, many paitents wanting the proceedure. I say as long as they have not eliminated me right off the bat is a good sign and I am ready to go forward as soon as they call. I will continue to read these fourms, if you would like to know more about the x-plant experience, just drop me a line.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
