A total un-fill

Recommended Posts

I had to have a total unfill today. I had been not keeping anything down (pain and misery involved) for a couple months, BUT at least I was losing weight. I'm two years from banding and have only lost 48 lbs. Most of that was in the first few months and the last 10 were lost in these months of not keeping anything down. My surgeon scolded me for not coming in sooner. He warned me about slipping and then gave me the un-fill.

The thing is, I'm really sad about it. I know myself from years (decades) of dieting and I don't buy this you can't lose weight in "starvation mode" crap. For me to lose weight I need to eat next to nothing. That ability has been taken away from me. Now I'll be dreading the scale and watching those numbers pile on again.

I'm thinking I also need to take a break from LBT. If I read about another person whining about not losing after only a week of banding I think I'll scream. The band doesn't work for everyone.

Good luck to you AnnieM,

I went through the fill removal over a month ago and had my band removed 2 1/2 weeks ago and feel much better. I'm not comparing situations but had to giggle when I read about you wanting to stop LBT because of the complaints from the newly banded. I think we all feel this way at some point in time. Anyway I wish you well and don't be so hard on yourself. I found when I was always thinking about dieting and losing weight with the band or without the band for that matter I would end up screwing up and now that I've stop concentrating on dieting some is coming off. It may never be the 100 lbs like when I was 20 but getting down to a comfortable weight is all I ever wanted in the first place and I just had to learn my own body and mind. Take care Nancy:smile:

Thank you for your reply Nancy. Why did you have your band removed? How far are you from your goal? I gained 2 lbs in one day after losing my fill. I hope that doesn't continue.

Annie,

I've had to have 2 complete unfills. The 1st was for a month and the 2nd for 2 months. I was surprised that I wasn't starved. I expected to be. My appetite did increase a little more after the first few weeks, but I was able to make good food choices and only gained a couple pounds. It was a relief not to have the reflux I had been having.

Try not to be afraid of the unfill. Remember good eating habits. Hopefully you will be able to start getting refilled in several weeks and will not have any problems and will have better success. I never knew I was too tight except for the reflux. I could eat anything.

Good luck.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
