Hi - New with Question

Recommended Posts

Hi - I am new here. I am being banded on October 29th - two weeks from today. So my pre-op diet started today. I just wanted to ask a question - I am supposed to have two Protein liquid supplements and then 4/6 ounces of a lean meat and non-starchy veggies a day. That is it. The protein supplement must not be more than 5 grams of fat, and I am not to have more than 50 carbs on a given day. So I am drinking these liquid supplements (I just had the watermelon flavor) - but I am reading about people using slim fast, etc. I am not hungry yet but I am only in hour three and the protein thing made me kind of ill. Do I need to find something with more substance or will the liquid be okay?

Hello Gracie! I cannot answer your question but can suggest that you call up your dietician or your surgeon's office and ask them. I just wanted to drop by and say I am getting banded Oct 29 as well! I only have to do a 2-day clear liquid diet before the surgery for some reason. Good Luck!

Congrats on your date. My pre-op diet sounded alot like yours. I used Proteins shakes(EAS- sam's club) mixed with milk and frozen bananas or some kind of frozen fruit to make it seem more like a milkshake and it was thick, so it satisfied me better I believe. It ususally takes about 2-3 days to get those cravings for carbs out of your system. I really looked forward to the regular dinner in the evening minus any carbs. We were told no carbs due to tryiing to shrink the liver before surgery, to make it easier to work around without getting any kind of nicks to cause more bleeding. I lost 6 lbs that 2 weeks, so it adds up. Hang in there, your day will be here before you know it. Look torward a new beginning, don't fret the little stuf, this is a steeping stone.Good luck and keep reading and posting. I was banded in Jan 08, down 61 lbs. from a size 16/18 to a 6/8 , loving my band. It will be worth it.

Hi Gracie. You have the same surgery date as wvgal and I. It's going to be a wonderful and safe day for us all. I have the liver shrink diet too and I am using adkins advatage Protein Shakes. I like the vanilla and the chocolate fudge flavors the best but can tolerate them all. Also the Boost glucose control ones were one of the ones the nutritionist offered us trials of and they weren't too bad. I am having my DH take some pics tonight for pre-surgery diary etc since I am feeling better after skin cancer removal on Monday but I can't wait to compare to family pics taken around the upcoming holidays.

Good luck to all with upcoming surgery dates! & Congrats to all who have already had surgery.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
